I'll be watching all the new TV pilots this year on the major networks, if you'd like to be tagged in my reviews of each of them let me know. It'll extend past the pilots if I like the show, obviously.
This went just about how you'd expect a generic Kevin James comedy to go. I can't say there was a single joke I laughed at, but considering it was a 21 minute show it wasn't painful to get through. My verdict here is that it's not on par with other comedies currently on TV, and being that it's on CBS it will be expected to perform well. I don't see that happening long term, I'd be surprised if it got a second season to be honest. I won't go out of my way to watch another episode either.
Unless you have a particular desire to watch a Kevin James comedy, or a shitty CBS comedy with a constant laugh track in the background, I wouldn't recommend this. There's somewhat of a charming family storyline going on, but that's about the only redeeming quality. That's not to say it was horrible, which is why my rating is what it is.
