Teenage Curfews?

Nov 11, 2008 by CarriexIdol
Hey, so I am currently working on a research paper for an english class, and my topic is Teenage Curfews.  I eventually need to choose if I think they are neccessary and appropriate or not.

Where do you guys stand on this issue? Do you think its fair for police to be able to send you home at 10pm even if you are doing nothing wrong?

Comment and let me know ;)

Thats what many people argue about. They say that since the Constitution does not in any place say that curfews are legal, that they are unconstitutional and not allowed.

But obviously, that means nothing to today's government.  =[

You are not a legal adult in the eyes of the law until 18.  I think a curfew is good, because it keeps students at home at night.  If you need to see your friends, give them a call.
I think it also cuts down on potential gang activity, alcohol abuse, and drug abuse.

I work at my local YMCA, and parents frequently drop their elementary/middle school aged kids off after school until 8-9 at night and in other cities, im sure parents do the same thing at malls and movie theaters.  In the workers' opinions these kids are usually the worst behaved and generally give all kids a bad name, but it only takes one bad kid for a kneejerk reaction in today's society.  A curfew keeps them safe, but it also causes parents to parent, and not make the kids society's responsibility.
