I feel really bad for you. As someone who has lost members of his family from BOTH of these, I cannot understand why people just joke about it, even if they aren't serious.
It is not a laughing matter. Get some help if you feel like making jokes about this.
I had cancer when I was 6 and it persisted until I was 8 y/o. I almost died several times. I was bleeding through practically anywhere I could possibly bleed. I bruised by the touch.
