that allows business to discriminate LGBTQ+ and pretty much kick them out of their business. like colleges now could kick me out, or like any restaurant, literally i could get kicked out of anywhere now. I also could get fired from any job for literally just being myself. Like this is kinda scary and I dont really feel safe in my state.
I think they worst part is the reasoning behind it was to "protect people's religious freedom." yea ok let's protect one group of people by oppressing another group...makes total yes (sarcasm intended)
This is exactly why religion has no place in government. All it does it separate people and cause hate.
Thank Gosh Dusty12910 I was hoping you were not from Georgia, but in most States there is that right especially here in Texas that if you are a establishment you have the right to refuse service to anyone! It's like that with counting cards in a Casino, if you are caught you have done nothing Illegal but they will back you off from blackjack tables and tell you that they do not want your gameplay on Blackjack! It is what they call a back off! I was in Walmart the other day and someone got mad about the long lines and the Manager told them that they were not going to open another register the customer told the Manager to "Fuck off" and the Manager simply in a friendly matter told the customer that his services in his store was kindly shutdown... It's not just Indiana it is most states and the firing in Texas for jobs is the same way... You can get fired for looking at your "Supervisor" or "Manager" the wrong way....
I hateto break it to ya but that was already the case...these bills are a smoke screen for something completely different than gay ppl...its for the election next year and rallying the base...its a way to continue their talking points if a war on their religion when its struck Down or its used agaianst them by aethist or Satanist etc...politics is all smoke and mirrors
So could you actually fire someone for being gay?
Seriously....what the actual fook...? :O
I just read up on this and found this 'interesting' article from the 'Daily Signal'....
'No one has the right to have the government force a particular minister to marry them, or a certain photographer to capture the first kiss or a baker to bake the wedding cake. Declining to perform these services doesn’t violate anyone’s sexual freedoms. Some citizens may conclude that they cannot in good conscience participate in a same-sex ceremony, from priests and pastors to bakers and florists. The government should not force them to choose between their religious beliefs and their livelihood.'
[as some other blogger pointed out earlier today] Most facilities that end up kicking someone out on the basis of their sexuality will be fucked by society so hard that they will have to sit on a bag of peas for an entire week. This changes nothing. The whole idea of it is ludicrous as you can be religious and feel someones way of life is against what a mythical deer god thingy in the sky says, without discriminating against them for it... but again, changes nothing.
I'm so sorry to hear that! I know that has happened in other states too but most of the time it is appealed and turned over quickly. I don't think it will last too long!!
but most companies don't discriminate, like they say "we dont discriminate by age/sexuality/gender" so why would you work for a company that discriminates to begin with?
Just felt like adding that I think most business won't kick out gays or lesbians. In these times that would be like business suicide. With social media all it takes is one facebook post or tweet and next thing you know people are boycotting a business. I can't imagine that there's many business owners who are blind enough not to see what would happen
The sad thing is, Mike Pence made this decision and blatantly disregarded requests from several huge organizations and people not to do so. This is borderline tyranny, and the conservatives are so fucking blind to what the majority of this state actually wants.
Indiana is a Right to Work State...you can be fired from any job for any reason, and really an employer doesn't even have to have a reason to fire someone.
Not to try and one up you or anything, but a lawyer in California (my state) proposed a law to allow the execution in the LGBT community. And get this, if someone under this isn't executed within 2 months, citizens would have the legal right to take their execution into their own hands.
Shouldn't your supreme court look at the legislation? It seems very unconstitutional.
That violates one's rights in accordance of the american constitution.
