The Shit I've Learned in 2016

4thDec 28, 2016 by Icarus_Mark
I’ve been gone from Tengaged from August of 2014 to January of this year, so with that in mind, I haven’t done one of these since New Year’s Eve of 2013.  But now that I’ve seen Tengaged through pretty much all of 2016, it gives every month a fair chance to have something notable I can learn from tengaged so I can do better for 2017.  Because I work on New Year’s Eve this year, I’m doing this a few days early.  Anyway, below are some of the more memorable things I have learned throughout my time on Tengaged for 2016.  Let’s go!

1. Reading and taking part in blog series can actually be fun.

I kind of slowly edged my way in with blog series that never really lifted off with such as Reneau, Slashed, and some Walking Dead-style blog series.  Over time though, especially in the summer days, I’ve learned how fun they can actually be, especially with Descendants and One Killer.  After following many blog series, I eventually began my own, feeling like I was finally ready to share my ideas to the world.  It’s really fun to just let my imaginations run wild and see what I can come up with, and see what other styles of writing we have here on Tengaged.

2. Just because your key count is ridiculously high in Castings does NOT automatically mean you win.

I’ve seen it before, and now that I’ve experienced it on the receiving end for myself first-hand, I can safely say this.  If you have 20 keys, that doesn’t guarantee you win.  You might have the most keys, but you need keys, checks, and challenge scores to win, and I’ve gotten 2nd this year once because even though I had 11 keys to everyone else’s 1, one of the people with 1 key still won because they did better than me in the other 2 categories.  Many times in Castings I have run away with 5+ keys by the end of day 3 and people would always tell me I’ve clinched the win.  No.  Anyone who knows how to rack up wins in castings know that the moment you let that mindset get the best of you, that is the moment you lose.  Plain and simple.  To win Castings, don’t just stop when other people think you’ve won.  Keep on going until you can’t anymore and you’re one step closer to winning and gaining that 40 Karma to help you on the way to Tengaged success.

3. Some people are HUGE attention whores!

You know who you are.  I read the Blogs Page a LOT and I see many people blog the same thing OVER AND OVER just for their 15 seconds of fame that everyone was tired of giving them after the 1st half time (or 2 seconds, whichever comes first) they blogged about how great they were, how relevant they were, how they should have a man penetrate her, etc.  I just ignore them most of the time, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to throw their names out of my mind and into a dumpster.

4. Some OTHER people have no morals.

It’s no secret that the mods are gone now and will most likely never come back.  As a result, many people have resorted to cheating and making multis like a turtle gives birth.  Like, I know Karma gives you power on this site, but GEEZ!  The amount of effort some of you all put onto this website is staggering, and some people have already gotten into the Hall of Fame through this!  Thankfully, I have somewhat abated the brunt of this by sticking to games with fewer multis, such as only joining Castings that isn’t overrun by multis, but I have seen my fair share of cheating and have been stuck with multis before.  Needless to say, it really isn’t fun.

5. There is no such thing as controlling your position in Hunger for the average player.

Many people have wanted to play Hungers on here, but after the few I have been in, I can safely question why it is people would want to join something so hopeless such as Hunger.  Because we have multis and people stealing accounts now, some people can join every Hunger that they want to join now.  Because Hunger is such a large cast to begin with, many people join in gigantic premades, and if there is a quarrel people HAVE in Hunger, most likely, you’re going to be used for your arrows just to be brought into these feuds only to most likely get out at an at best middling placement if you’re lucky.  Furthermore, since it’s a such a large cast, if you wanna get even into the Final 10, good fucking luck!  I’ve done in once, but it’s really difficult as before I did make it there, I’ve had some pretty bad exits from Hunger that I would rather not relive again.

6. It might be hard to merge, BUT anyone who is anyone can still merge at least once!

With Survivor being overrun by cheat engine, it’s hard for many people to merge.  However, that’s not to say you can’t ever merge.  For a while earlier on this year, I had thought I would never live to see another merge.  But as luck would have it, I was the one person to merge out a tribe, and I would continue on for 14 merges!  And my scores aren’t even that good to begin with, so to have made it that far even once is something I’ll always remember and look back at with a smile.  I also look at others who have merged too that have scored even worse in challenges than I have and that’s when I know that really, given the right circumstances, you can merge no matter who you are, even in the days of cheat engine.

7. There are actually positives to having no moderation.

Despite some of the obvious cons we’ve had to suffer through now that the mods are gone and are likely never returning, let’s look at some of the pros we’ve been able to enjoy.  With the advent of charities getting more and more common, our T$ have increased to a point that, for some people, we never have to worry about running out.  I’ve been able to buy designs easier than I have ever been able to before now because I get so many T$ from betting.  I do understand this has caused a gigantic inflation for Shops, but this only happens for what?  Designs?  The prices for Color Levels will never change, so even with the inflation, you can still work your way up the Color Ladder the same way.  Considering I was still a Sky Level when I came back and have now graduated to TV Star, I can safely say I am proud of what I’ve accomplished on this site.  Maybe on the off-chance that we do get mods again, the people who don’t get banned for multis and cheat engine will be able to get even more colors past the TV Star Level.  It’s a pipe dream for now, but hey, one can hope, right?

8. If you’re going to join a Group Game, do make sure you can actually make the challenges.

So lately, I’ve dipped my toes back into the group game scene.  Needless to say, I’ve been reminded as to why I stopped doing them in the first place.  Whenever challenges are live, it’s still very difficult for me to make them, so I try to make sure that, okay, I’m dealing with a Non-Live season if I’m going to join one.  Also, in one particular Group Game, all I missed was the first challenge, but it was that first challenge that got me voted out that night.  Luckily, we had Redemption Island that season, so I still had my chance to make an impact, but it still gave me the reminder that if it weren’t for that one challenge, I could have made it a lot further in the game.

9. You can get Veto more than once in a row in Rookies, AND you can have the algorithm nominate you AND get the Veto from them at the same time.

I’ve learned this from a few of the charities I have helped over the course of 2016.  The first of these I’ve learned was the algo nomming me WITH the Power of Veto.  I’ve only ever had this happen on the final day, and it’s rare, but I have seen it happen to me where I was nommed right after I am HOH, and then, oh look, I have Power of Veto!  Because I have morals, I do anything to help a charity and normally just don’t use that last Veto, but it’s not to say I’m ungrateful the algorithm thinks of me positively like that sometimes.  But it’s how I am.  And then there have been times where I have had 2 vetos in a row.  I can’t remember how many times I’ve had that happen, but it has happened to that extent before.  When it has, it’s a nice little tidbit to the game.

10. Just because you help a Shop Owner out does NOT mean you should expect a gift from them!

I’ve been kind of experimenting with other shop owners because why not?  But because I can pick what I want to buy in Auctions, I can request it to a shop owner I like, and then they spam the item in, and now I have a design that I really want for my avi.  But many times, I do end up not getting my gift because someone else buys it when the time for said gift was to come.  To be fair though, it’s fair play, and if they can snatch a gift meant for me, good for them.  I’m not triggered because I have helped someone I like get a shop and/or I got a design I really liked anyway out of it and so I am content.

I’m sure there was more things I’ve learned, but those are the big ones.  If you like what you’ve read, plus away.  Or don’t.  But New Year’s is a holiday I never get tired of because it’s a way to look back at the year behind me and look forward to the year ahead of me as I head on over, one step closer to the future of planet Earth.

I just got the chance to watch the video TaraG!  That video is so cute!  :)  Though it does remind me of another song Celine Dion did for Christmas.
