American TV vs British TV

Jul 18, 2014 by Jouix
I personally feel like the production styles are a lot different.. I find British TV to be more "gritty", raw and perhaps more of a resemblance of real life? compared to American TV being highly edited, more colourful and portraying a sense of perfectionism.

Also British TV shows nudity after 9pm.. quite a lot of shows do and it isn't frowned upon at all here tbh.. people actually appreciate the realism more. I don't know if they do that on American TV?

One example though is the Skins remake.. the British version was so gritty, it portrayed drugs, sex, violence and other psychological themes yet the US remake shunned away from a lot of the issues the series tackled and watered it down so much that even all the swearing was censored......

Another example is Bad Girls Club, it's such a violent themed show yet they bleep out almost all the swearing except for the word bitch.. I would've thought a show like that would open up a bit more!

Any thoughts?
