Fortunately for jakep82 he doesn't appear to be dissociating into children, that usually indicates severely traumatic child abuse with possible cult activity. DID is not a genetic condition, it is caused by traumatic stress in ones life, but it's usually a stress that happens all the time, because single events of traumatic stress usually manifests itself as PTSD. Things as exciting as this are the reason I'm a Psychology major! I wrote a short story about DID in my senior year of high school and won a "Gold Key" in my regional level in the Scholastic Art and Writing competition.
