Ranking people from Hannah's tapes

Apr 22, 2017 by Moonfelar
Based on how much I like them as a character. Also arbitrarily sorting them into houses lol. Mind spoiler tag!

12. Marcus (Slytherin)
It's #controversial to not put the rapist in the bottom spot, but Marcus was just so fucking boring and at least Bryce was a good antagonist.

11. Bryce (Slytherin)
He's gross in almost every way a person can be. I have to wonder what kind of childhood he had. I think the actor that portrayed him did a good job.

10. Mr. Porter (Ravenclaw, but maybe one that didn't study enough)
I'm the most upset about his portrayal in the series as an aspiring counselor myself. He was incompetent, and the show did not show any competent counselors. I think this portrayal will contribute to the mistrust of counselors and stigma surrounding mental health. I wish it wasn't so. The character himself was unremarkable.

9. Courtney (Slytherin)
I was very empathetic with Courtney in the beginning, but she went way too far to hide her sexuality. Especially because her parents would have been accepting of it.

8. Jessica (Gryffindor)
I found myself disliking her for most of the series. She is clearly a sympathetic character, so I can't really put my finger on why.

7. Ryan (Ravenclaw with all the worst traits)
I like him because he was one of the only characters that had a remotely comical line in the entire series, that being when he says something about Courtney coming out the closet. Other than that he isn't very important to the overall plot and he was the only person who I couldn't remember off the top of my head.

6. Sheri (Hufflepuff)
I liked her, especially that she was the first person to take responsibility for what she did.

5. Zach (Slytherin)
Vengeance is a clear theme in his life. I like that, because at first he seemed like the most level headed character, but his vengeful side gets revealed later. He was also willing to accept responsibility for what he did.

4. Clay (Gryffindor)
I like him, I'm always drawn to meek little geeky boy characters. He got in one to many physical brawls for my taste though lol. Absolutely robbed that Hannah put him in the tapes because he really didn't do anything to her.

3. Tyler (Ravenclaw)
It is almost always the case that I latch onto a bit player in a story and like them more than is warranted (foxface from The Hunger Games, Laura from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Bianca from Spyro, the list goes on). Tyler was that one for me in this series. There's just something compelling about him. I was under the impression that he was mentally ill in his major episode and that was basically confirmed by the end. I'd like to see more about him in a second season.

2. Justin (Hufflepuff)
Expected to really hate him after the first episode, but I think he's really one of the most sympathetic characters. He doesn't get love at home, so he attaches to Bryce, who shows him kindness, and is blinded to his terrible side. His story is one of growth and he was definitely one of the most changed characters in the end than the beginning.

1. Alex (Hufflepuff)
I love Alex he's great would love a second season with him as the protagonist. I was afraid he was going to off himself episode 3, but he ended up trying it anyway. Or maybe Tyler shot him?

Also Tony was by far the most annoying character and Olivia was also great but wasn't in the tapes.
