Survivor 29 Episode 9 Review

What an action-packed episode that was, with everyone having gotten enjoyable content with the exception of Alec, and to top it all off with a true blindside, that even the editing managed to shadow well!?

If this episode showed one thing about Jon & Jaclyn, it is that they're untrustworthy and unreliable. Honestly. I don't see how anyone can trust them at this point. They've received +1 hater with Natalie, so all they really have are Missy & Baylor, who aren't necessarily the most reliable allies either. I seriously think Jaclyn will be next out, taking the fall from Jon's Idol which he saves himself with. An even more surprising outcome would be Jon out, but I feel like Jaclyn is the safer, and the more likely to be voted off first. It would also play into the whole "Missy & Baylor as untrustworthy" warning signs, since the edit has set up Baylor turning on Jaclyn again, assuming Missy/Baylor flip and join in on a split-vote plan (if that becomes the case), against Jon and Jaclyn.

Jon could easily be the next one out, due to what we've seen happen with Josh & Jeremy, truly showing how as Jeff teased, "unorthodox" this merge/season has become, so on the basis of the unconventionality and unpredictability of the season, Jon could be next, but the main difference between Josh/Jeremy and Jon is the editing. Both Josh and Jeremy received doses of negativity in their edits, with the edit trying to make them look poor (Josh voting out Rocker, Jeremy bitching and complaining), whereas Jon has gotten a consistently positive edit despite obstacles having been in his way that could have made him seem very bad to the viewing public (e.g. Drew, his "outburst" after the Drew vote, flipping).

Onto more of the episode though, I seriously enjoyed everyone. Jon as a "game-bot" wasn't bad. I actually didn't mind seeing him talk about Idols, and wanting to make a move, etc. Overall, Jon is a bearable white alpha-male. We did it. Jaclyn also served a nice touch to the episode, especially her Tribal Council performance with calling out Keith/Wes. Jaclyn seriously always brings it LOL. And onto Keith and Wes, I also highly enjoyed their presences that episode. Wes didn't interest me much, but I found Keith rather intriguing as a hilariously 'bitter old man' opposing-majority character. We need someone like Keith in the minority every season who doesn't add much to the episode dynamics when there is a large majority, just there for some needed bitter commentary.

Reed was also bearable that episode. I enjoyed his antics and his 'I've got nothing to lose' mentality. He was rather enjoyable to watch, and provided some insightful commentary that I actually agreed with. This is the first time Reed has actually gotten an edit of substance so I can't say much about whether Josh / being in the majority positively correlated with my Reed-hate, but I can say that Reed is looking a lot more root-able now given he is in a precarious position game-wise with the absence of the awful Josh.

Natalie seriously delivered the quote of the season that episode. "What the fuck, Missy?". Classic. I really enjoyed Natalie that episode, and she got some cute insight about her reasoning for giving up the reward but I unfortunately can't say that Natalie's merge edit is as strong as it could be for her to be a serious contender in my eyes. However, it looks like her edit begins to pick up next episode, where she seems more bitter at Jon than anyone else, which looks good for Missy and Baylor. Natalie asking Baylor to look for the Idol with her? Interesting.

Overall, strong episode, with a lot of interestingly conflicting character content.
