Eurovision 2017 Poland Ranking

Feb 14, 2017 by Patrick319
My ranking & review of the 9 currently known songs in the Polish selection. The final song, "Sky over Europe" hasn't been revealed yet but based on THAT song title, I don't think I have to wait to make a full ranking.

1. CARMELL
My personal favourite from the bunch, but it's not for Eurovision. Maybe better suited as a filler track on an indie pop album, but I don't see this working on the big stage, sadly.

2. LANBERRY
Probably the most marketable song from the bunch, and most likely to do well outside the Eurovision bubble (similarly to Margaret). My concern is that it will be disqualified if it wins due to the Polish version having been released in August, so I'd rather avoid that outcome entirely.

3. ISABELL OTREBUS
The song is nice but struggling to find an identity I think. It starts off as a power ballad with a peace message and then tries to ride the Kygo wave during the chorus. A little confusing, but not a bad song. Also has a Swedish songwriter so it's clearly a MelFest reject (was initially intended for Lisa Ajax, supposedly).

4. KASIA MOS
It's basically trying to be LoveWave without the climax nor the iconic start. I think it's pretty interesting and haunting, but its success will ultimately ride on Kasia's ability to sell it live. She appears to be the favourite heading in too so don't fuck it up.

5. AGATA NIZINSKA
I'm a little over the constant ballad after ballad, but I quite like this. She literally sounds like Celine Dion, and I think it builds nicely.

6. ANETA SABLIK
Love the verses tbh but the chorus is kinda lame, and also 'Ulalala' is a very cringy lyric and title.

7. MARTIN FITCH
Very blatant copy of Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes, LOL. How is this allowed?? This will so get caught for plagiarism if selected.

8. PAULLA
I like the start but don't think it goes anywhere. Kinda meh.

9. OLAF BRESSA
No.

VERDICT: Carmell and Lanberry are my faves, but I THINK Isabell is the best choice for Eurovision. Kasia would be my second choice.
