None of you will have any idea what I'm talking about probably, but regardless...
Why was Lupe circa his debut and sophomore (F&L and The Cool) not held in the same regard as Kendrick's last three (Section.80, GKMC, TPAB)? Like Lupe's debut was at least on the same level of Kendrick's and The Cool is one of the most criminally underrated hip-hop albums of all time.
They're both narratives and social commentaries done in different ways. Kendrick is already considered one of the greatest of all time and GKMC and TPAB are already considered as classics. Why not Lupe and F&L and The Cool? Sure, he fell off after those two, but that shouldn't take away from the brilliant of his first two.

Accidentally negged, but it's mostly marketing differences between the two. Kendrick is being marketing as a more accessible artist.
I'm not sure why, but people seem to be in love with Kendrick rn, which not saying he's bad, but he's a bit overrated.
GrrrImABear Sick, somebody does know what I'm talking about!!
I can see the marketing bit, but even when his major label debut (Good Kid Mad City) dropped, Kendrick wasn't a big name in hip-hop. He slowly started to get a few relatively well played radio singles, but Lupe had that too (Swimming Pools and Superstar being the first big one from each artist). Lupe had buzz, although I think the fact that the internet wasn't as huge or accessible had a lot to do with Lupe not being as highly regarded. Less commentary on the albums.
Can't say I agree with Kendrick being overrated though haha. There is little doubt in my mind that his albums, or at the very least just GKMC, will be regarded as a pedagogical tool in a university setting not long down the line as a discussion piece on social commentaries of the modern "hood" urban setting. It *is* that brilliant, but I still think Lupe's first two are as well, just in a different way.
Well, I didn't mean overrated as a whole, simply in comparison to artists such as Lupe that should be placed on the same pedestal.
It's probably exactly what you said, with the internet being a huge reason as to why Kendrick was more higherly regarded (couldn't figure out how to say that in English, excuse me.)
