Why Do People Think Death Penalty Is Wrong?

May 15, 2015 by ShadowBaller000
I'm only for it if the person is 100% guilty, like people like Saddam Hussein and the other Al Qhaida people deserve it yes?

I wouldn't wish death upon anyone

because I don't think that anyone deserves to die

i agree that at times people deserve it, but i don't personally think shooting them is the right way to go about it.

there have been people who have been convicted, sentenced, and executed and then evidence came up however many years later that exonerated them

of course you can easily use the emotional argument and say "WOW SO YOU DONT WANT SADDAM TO DIE" but that's not the reality of the situation and most cases where the death penalty is being considered are not cut-and-dry

vixanu if someone killed my mum I would want them dead, jail is too easy

I think prison is best. Torture and time to think about what they did wrong.

Civilized people don't support the death penalty

Sentencing murderers to the death penalty will never ever ever EVER bring back his victims...

sexybanana Theirs an article online where a homeless person purposely got himself sent to jail cause it was a place to stay, free food, ect. Personally for me, if someone killed my mum I'd rather them die then have a place to stay for the rest of their life to think about what they did.

obscurity I would only be for it if their was too much evidence to prove it happened or if the person admitted to being guilty. Or like if their is video evidence, a bunch of eye witnesses. Like the people who do the public school shooting, theirs enough evidence to prove those people arn't innocent, they deserve the death penalty. Of course I wouldn't be for it if their was still doubt the person was innocent.

if you read through this whole article and still support the death penalty, i'd be a little concerned about your priorities. if you simply put people in jail for the rest of their life, AT LEAST you have the option of setting them free if evidence comes up that proves they weren't guilty.

the US justice system has always been about protecting the innocent, not damning the guilty. "It is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer"

shadowballer000 yeah i understand that and of course if that was possible i would consider supporting it.

however, if you want to keep the death penalty in place JUST because of the few awful criminals that are 100% without a doubt guilty, then everyone else is also at risk of being given the death penalty as well, even those where there is not enough evidence

the priority should be on making sure we don't kill innocent people, and the only way to make sure that doesn't happen is to completely disallow the death penalty.

and honestly if your concern is making the terrible people suffer, i hope you realize that locking them up in supermax prison for 23 hours a day is arguably worse than a quick and painless death. and it's cheaper for the taxpayers
Sent by obscurity,May 15, 2015
etienne letting them rot away in jail won't bring victims back either. Civilized people last time I checked shouldn't be going around killing people either. If you are going to go and kill someone then the same thing should happen to you

I'm a cruel person but sometimes people have to die for any change to happen
Sent by ShadowBaller000,May 15, 2015
shadowballer000 for change to happen? you realize this is what he wants right? he's going to be seen as a martyr by the extremist communities for "dying for his cause"

if we locked him up forever with no chance of appeal, he'd have no power. he would just fade into irrelevancy which is exactly what we should want. this is the exact reason the families of the victims of the boston marathon bombing did not want him to get the death penalty

obscurity I don't really care about the whole tax money issue, America already does a shit job at that ROFL

But looking at it for me personally, I'd rather the killer of my mum die then go to jail. Going to jail where they can still write letters to their mum, going to jail where they can still have family visits every so often or a phone call to your mum.

And if being in a supermax prison for 23 hours a day is worse than the death sentence then won't the innocent people just be suffering more in the long term cause they will be in a worst place then a quick and painless death? (Not saying jail is worst but I'm just using what you said)
Sent by ShadowBaller000,May 15, 2015
shadowballer000 honestly man there's no point arguing about this. you keep bringing up all of these ridiculous emotional appeals like "saddam should die" or "the person who kills my mom should die"

that's a ridiculous way to have an argument, i've said what i needed to say and we can just disagree and i'm okay with that
Sent by obscurity,May 15, 2015
obscurity its not though LOL anytime someone is killed theirs a mother/father/son/daughter/brother/sister family member that is hurt from it. The emotional appeal I'm bringing is because I know if someone killed my mum I would want them dead and if other victim families want the same then the court should honor it (FOR ONLY PEOPLE 100% GUILTY)

And I meant change to happen like it would discourage people. It's kinda like if you steal your hands should be chopped off then people would steal less (I don't support that btw!)

However I do support that if you torture someone and chop their hands off then once you get convicted and you are 100% guilty then your hands should be chopped off so you know the pain that made you someone else go through, this would discourage people from doing it again.

And of course we're gonna disagree, I don't expect to make you change your view on something just by having a debate about it on tengaged lol
