You can't deny that cancer exists. People don't think cancer can affect them but there's a cancer related to practically everything!
We don't want people to act like it doesn't exist because it does.
If all they're doing is writing a word then technically, they're spreading cancer awareness.
I am sorry for whatever you've been through related to cancer, but why hate a word? Why relate memories of people you care about to that word?
While I haven't had to deal with cancer closely, I have had to deal with other things.
When I hear "diabetes", I don't think of my friend. But show me an owl picture and she's on my mind, then I'll text her about the owl (she loves owls). :)
I remember people for their personalities, not their conditions. I am considerate of it, sure, but that's not what my friends and family are.
Orlando652 You know when people try to ban themselves, they just post those words over and over again. There no reason to be offended by that because it's just the word.
But when the word is being used as a weapon, then yes, be offended.

The N-word has a history of use for oppressing people. It was used quite literally to make them inferior and feel like nothing.
Are people with cancer inferior? No! Cancer isn't a death sentence on its own. There are so many preventions and remedies, with more coming. If you were born black just 100 years ago, you were born screwed.
The F-word reduces personalities of ordinary people into a stereotype. "You are a ___" and that's it. It reduces an entire range of people into a thing.
And cancer shouldn't be allowed to do that. People with cancer are more than the illness.
If a doctor uses the word "cancer", should anyone be offended? If a doctor uses the other 2 words, they could lose their job, since it's harder to use those 2 in an inoffensive manner.

JakeD Yeah... I've been in situations where I've been called a terrorist over and over. It doesn't offend me anymore because I realised that that word isn't me. It's a word, yes, but it is not me.
I'm a Muslim, not that. And people who call me that are just trying to get a reaction out of me, but I don't let them. Instead, I blog about the people who brighten my day here. :)

Instead, I'm going to thank the insensitive person who did this for allowing us to talk about cancer on a top blog. It's not something people like to talk about, unless you're here using it maliciously.

Yoshitomi - I have a feeling you want me to back up why I think your comment is silly. Why would anyone just post that word? The original poster was trying to get a reaction. We assign meaning to words, of course we do, we can't just turn off feelings. Words are words, but basically this one has nothing but negative connotations. I could list other words that again would cause upset, to prove my point, but let's not go down that route.
Yes the original poster may not have known that someone would get upset, but posting it how it was shown above is insensitive, whatever spin you put on it.

I don't have the right to control people's emotions and I've been there. I let words like "terrorist" really get me down. This is why I made my comment. Based on my experience.

I think Yoshitomi was simply saying we shouldn't give so much power to disease. It shouldn't be how you remember someone. Remember the person for who they are, not what they have.
I don't believe she is denying that those who did this were doing it to be total pricks.
