Is play a fucking idol when she heard her name come up. What's so legendary about that?????? Jenn Brown literally did the same thing 1 season before her, and I don't hear half the praise for her that Wentworth gets. #Survivor
Kelley currently holds the record for the most number of votes voided by a Hidden Immunity Idol, with 9.
She currently holds the record for most votes ever nullified against a castaway in a single season, with 12.
DakotaCoons Well no, personally I wouldn't call that very legendary. If she made finals she would have won, but the fact that she NEEDED to use those idols and nullify those votes isn't very legendary, it's indicative of not great gameplay.
Holding records doesn't really make one legendary. Jan Gentry holds the record for "most bat fetuses buried" but I wouldn't call her a legend
dumbginger I usually agree with you but this time you are wrong. "That bat fetuses buried" is a terrible comparison. Kelley is one of the most improved survivors ever. She found an idol at a challenge, first person ever. She used it and nullified more votes than any tribal and managed to STILL MAKE IT TO FINAL FOUR. You gotta give her credit, don't be a hater. Plus Jenn did basically quit so she should get little to no respect.
DumbGinger I don't really understand the argument that "she NEEDED to use those idols and nullify those votes... it's indicative of not great gameplay."
Like basically you're saying anyone who's ever used an idol on themself to stay has played a terrible game?? That logic can be applied to Yau-Man in Fiji, Amanda in Micronesia, Russell in Samoa, Penner and Abi in Philippines, Keith and Jon in SJDS, Carolyn/Jenn/Mike in Worlds Apart, and Jeremy in Cambodia.
I'm not saying all of them are great gameplayers, but if you're going to apply that logic to Wentworth, you'll certainly have to apply it to everyone else who has done the same, and several of those people are highly revered strategists. It can also be argued that Wentworth using the idol at final 6 was a mistake, as it would have at least given Wentworth/Kimmi/Keith a shot at rocks.
amf7410 A player having to use an idol does not instantly make them a bad player. However, if you are in a position where you have to use an idol, in some way, you fucked up. We look down on people like Mike Holloway or Fabio who needed to win immunity to stay alive, having to use an idol to stay alive is a strike on your record.
Im not saying Wentworth is a bad player or that shes on Fabio or Mike's level, but yes, those idols are strikes on her record and I think should be counted against her rather than for her. The people you listed have good player skill but yes they done goofed and had to play an idol, that is a negative mark on their record.
blazer44 The bat fetus thing is a joke my dude. I don;t care how good a player is. Wentworth is a better player than Jenn Brown. However I find Wentworth to be an absolute bore that's hard to watch, while Jenn gave many entertaining confessionals. Do I respect Wentworth more as a player than Jenn? Of course. Does respect as a player mean anything to me? No. Jenn's the better character by a landslide.
DumbGinger before I respond to you comment, I want to say that I appreciate you because you're able to have intelligent strategic conversations in a civilized manner, even with people disagreeing with you. I see your point moreso now, but I still have to mostly disagree. Sure, that's one viewpoint on the idol, but the other way to look at it is that finding an idol is impressive and you also have to know when to use it. Many people misplay/don't play idols, but if you're able to play one correctly, I don't think there should be at fault.
Similarly, I also think that finding idols is impressive (not so much now as it was in like the China-Samoa era, although these new twists with where to find them, such as challenges, is bring that back for me). I think that it's important to utilize every tool at your disposal to give you the biggest advantage moving forward, whether it be playing an idol on yourself or someone else. If not, sure finding the idol itself was still an accomplishment, but it's pointless to have it in my opinion.
I think it mainly had to do because Wentworth negated more votes than her, she broke records, and Wentworth kept playing and trying and overall played a much better game. I loved Jenn but she basically gave up after Hali's vote off
