Following the first-ever four-tribe split in TDSC history, everyone began to bond with their tribe in new ways that were never possible before, not to mention the editing was a lot easier to do for each tribe as well. On the Google Plus Tribe, the four gossipy girls mostly talked about fashion and other girly things, led by Jenna. On the Subscribe Tribe, the four critics all felt very comfortable loudly insulting and criticizing whatever they wanted, and each person respected one another more than anyone else could. On the Thumbs-Up Tribe, Brittani tried to flirt with Anthony and Shane to get on their good side, but only managed to end up annoying both of them and doing the exact opposite. However, when the 301+ Tribe lost the previous challenge, it was time to focus on the four of them.
Getting a lot of love from video gamers, Matthew was ecstatic when he received the Subscriber Idol. He concocted an amusing theory in a confessional about all three different possibilities that he could use the idol for and how they would affect his game. Playing it for a boost in the next challenge seemed like a waste, since what were the chances they would lose to all three other teams yet again? Making it count as two votes could potentially made him go home, since Felix, Ray and Toby could all easily vote for him and still oust him 3-2. So, deciding not to cause trouble, Matthew announced he would be playing the idol as a hidden immunity idol on himself. This news made Felix, Ray and Toby all realize that one of them was about to leave. Ray attempted to turn Felix and Toby against one another, and then sway Matthew to join him in voting out Felix, due to his heavy influence on a lot of people.
At tribal council, Matthew made yet another theory on just how the idol twist played into the game this season, and how he would be the first player to use it as a hidden immunity idol in the game and what kind of sign that was for him making the merge on a four-person tribe, which was soon to be a three-person tribe. No one quite understood Matthew's logic at all. When he was asked who he was going to target between Felix, Ray and Toby, Matthew said that Toby was a nice guy, if not a bit annoying, so he wouldn't be voting for him. This immediately caused Felix and Ray to plead their cases to both Matthew and Toby. Felix protested that he was more useful in challenges and was very trustworthy, while Ray was a lot more cunning and devious. Ray countered by saying that Felix was incredibly talented at manipulating others and that the longer they kept him in the game, the more damage he would do. When it came to the vote, Matthew kept his word and played his idol, but naturally it was pointless as no one voted for him. However, Ray's words ended up falling on deaf ears, as Felix dodged another bullet and Ray William Johnson was the first male voted out of the game in a 3-1 vote.

When it came time for the next challenge, the 301+ Tribe proved they made a good decision in voting out Ray, as they went from worst to first in no time. The Subscribe Tribe continued to impress with a solid second place finish, pitting the all-female Google Plus Tribe against the mixed gender Thumbs-Up Tribe for third. Ultimately, the female foursome of the Google Plus Tribe won out and claimed third, sending the Thumbs-Up Tribe to tribal council.
