"There," Betta finishes wrapping the wound on Sequin. Having to replace the bandages every few hours to avoid infection.
"Where did you learn how to do this?" Sequin asks as he looks at his freshly bandaged wound.
"My neighbor, Indigo, she was the main healer, you heard of her before?" Betta asks.
"Yeah!" Sequin answers, "She helped my brother when he fell ill"
"Yeah," Betta says, placing the first aid kit back into her bag, "She tought me some things well my mom was working at the factories."
Betta slings her backpack over her shoulders, smiling as she looks down at Sequin and motioning her head for them to go. Sequin getting up and walking. Betta felt safe around Sequin, protected. He had saved her in the bloodbath and even before then she felt more comfortable with him around. During training he would stick by her side and watch over her. He was like the brawn and she was the brain, they made the perfect duo.
"Maybe we will see a monkey," Betta says, excited to see the world around her. Despite being in a game of killing she seen the positivity in it. She had never seen anything like the jungle they were in, only reading of the animals that would live in it in books. And now she gets to see them in real life, touch them, hear them. It made her happy.
Sequin looks at Betta, her cheery attitude almost contagious. Sequin smirks as he follows the tiny girl.
"You still owe me that kiss," Beck smiles as he sits beside Ekaterina.
"Oh do I?" Ekaterina laughs a little.
"Well I did save your life." Beck answers.
"Well I will make you a deal, if I win the games I'll give you a kiss," Ekaterina smiles.
"But then I would be dead or whatever," Beck looks at Ekaterina.
"Yeah but I would be alive and that's all that matters," Ekaterina says.
Beck stands up, twirling his spear. "It won't be that easy," he smiles, walking past her.
Ekaterina looks at Beck feeling butterflies, a feeling she had never felt before. Beck was not like the other kids back at District 4. She remembers him not really caring about training, he was so free and just wanted to do other things, and funny.
"Stop it," Ekaterina thinks to herself. She knows no one would like her, let alone love her Her parents even said so after she dropped out of training. They were right, she was the black sheep of District 4. "He is just trying to use you, get close to you so it will be harder to kill him," Ekaterina thinks to herself, "Don't let him"
"We going?" Emerald walks out of the cornucopia with Verlium.
"Yeah," Antonis says.
"then lets go," Emerald leads the career pack away.
The careers saw what happened 2 years ago, the tribute they had placed in charge of watching the cornucopia turned on them and stole the supplies. then last year they just sat around and got picked off. This time they learned, take everything possible, burn the rest, keep moving.
Ekaterina looks back at the careers, tossing the match into the pile of supplies, igniting it on flames before she walks away.
Quinton walks through the jungle. He is ready to attack at any moment, fearing the animals that hide within the jungle more then he does the tributes. the tributes could be reasoned with but a animal, a mutt, not so much. He walks through an area filled with large ferns and tall trees covered in vines when he suddenly feels the tip of a knife against the back of his neck.
"Drop everything" Lucia hisses.
Quinton freezes, his heart almost leaping out of his chest. He slowly drops everything and suddenly Lucia spins him around.
Lucia is covered in dirt, branches, and leaves. She looks like a giant pile of dirt and leaves, if it wasnt for her eyes peeking through he wouldn't have even noticed it was a tribute.
Lucia looks at Quinton, as if thinking. "Who have you killed!?" Lucia asks.
"No one..." quinton stutters, "I don't want to."
Lucia takes this into consideration and slowly pulls the knife away.
"The girl from 9, she walked past here about 10 minutes ago. She was going to the river probably." Lucia says.
"And you wanna go after her!?" Quinton asks.
"No, we need to get out of here before she comes back," Lucia says, grabbing her supplies, walking away.
Quintoon grabs his things, now more scared then ever. The females in this game being more aggressive and hostile then ever before.
Salal looks, seeing the sun begin to set. It was time again, every day she collcted water in the morning, then noon, then before night. She knew using a fire at night would be too dangerous, it would attract tributes.
She climbs down from her tree, looking around for any signs of tributes and seeing no one she bends down to the water. She begins to fill her makeshift canteen.
Salal watches around her as the canteen fills when she suddenly sees bubbles splash up from the water. She has no time to react, within seconds the crocodile bursts out of the water, its mouth gaping wide as it rushes towards her.
"AAA!" Salal screams as she kicks away from the edge of the water, slamming into the ground she digs her fingers into the soft ground to get to the tree.
The crocodile slams its mouth down on Salal's leg, it's rows of teeth sinking into her flesh.
"AAA!!" Salal screams.
Salal grabs a branch and looks back, slamming the branch into the crocodile's head, but does not damage. She screams and slams it into the crocodile's eye. the crocodile hisses as it lets go of Salal.
Salal scurries to her feet, breathing heavy, the pain shooting through her body as she rushes for her tree. She slams into the trunk of it, her hands grabbing the sides as she goes to lift herself up when the crocodile grabs her leg again.
"AAAAAAAAA!" Salal screams as the crocodile drags her into the water. The girl vanising under the surface of the murky lake.
Blood begins to taint the water.
