Why it's hard for me to make friends in college. I left Knox because I did not fit in socially. It's hard to come into a new school mid-year and just find people I connect with. I know it takes time since I just transferred this semester, but is it too much to ask for just a couple close friends here? I don't need a million acquaintances on my contact list, I just need a rock similar to what I had at Knox with Katie or Christa at Grayson.
I want someone, hopefully multiple people, who I can go to whenever I have a problem. I love how I can call either best friend whenever and she'll hear me rant for over an hour, but I just want someone like that here at Goucher where I can rant in person, so essentially a Goucher bestie. I know that sounds cheesy, but right now that's all that would make me happy.
I recently had my theatre professor tell me that I "often dominate conversations, pushing [my] own ideas and notions, without listening carefully to others." This is something that I'm going to try and change, so I become a more active listener. I understand that I'm not the best listener, and I love to talk about myself, but in order to find that connection with my peers..I must take a step back and become less self-absorbed. Not that it's intentional, but I always wonder why my friends know way more about me than I do about them. Because I always talk about Corey and not enough about them, so for that I do apologize, and I am going to try and become more empathic to those around me.
One must take into account that he/she cannot blame others for all their problems. I have to realize that these social problems I have encountered are not just my classmates fault. I have a high strung personality in which a lot of people don't seem to grasp. I hope to educate people about the real Corey Ants. I'm just a normal (almost) 20 year old striving for that American Dream. If you actually listened to this rant..why thank you! Now it's time to study for my French test and try to beat my high score of 64%!!
