It is 2:30AM in Australia and I have to say even though it pisses me off it was a 5-4 vote and the Supreme Court narrowly made the right decision: marriage equality is finally legal everywhere in the U.S. from Georgia to Mississippi to Texas, yes even Texas.
It is a fantastic day to be an American. Not just an American, but a human being. The fact that same sex couples can get married now: it means love is love regardless of sexual orientation.
But let me get this straight: the Republicans will do everything in their power to stop this from happening. Just mark my words: religious freedom laws are just the beginning. And also remember this: marriage equality is just the start to freedom in our society. The LGBT community still has a lot of work to do in the U.S.A. 9 out of 10 LGBT teens have reported being bullied in school. Sexual orientation is the second most reason for hate crimes in our country, after race. 40% of homeless youth are LGBT. It's 2015 and families are still disowning their children for being bi, gay, lesbian, trans, etc. Same sex couples can now get married in America, but we must remember to still fight for equal rights as the fight is far from over.
Edit- Supposedly Mississippi won't give out licenses: not shocking given their history with the civil rights movement SMH.
