You're taking a women studies class when the professor asks everyone to introduce themselves and you have to state what pronouns you go by.
I was pretty shocked when the "guy" near me said she went by she/her pronounds. She was a trans-woman, but in a tank top, pretty hairy, manly(ish) looking, and honestly I would have never guessed in a million years, she was trans. She went on about it...and then someone accidentally called her a he.
I'm all for trans rights, but I guess the lesson today is "Don't assume someone is a he/she by appearance" because turns out I was the only one who used he/him pronouns in the class!
coreyants I'm in grad school and we did this in all my classes
But my professors are all queer so they think about it and I could see some classmates thrown off. It's a great habit to get into. One of my professors uses zee/hir as pronouns
