So as many of you know I'm thinking of going to S. Korea to teach English once I graduate college after this semester.
Option A: Apply to a hawgon (an academy)
One year contract
Work in a small-mid size city most likely
Around $20,000 a year
Airfare payed going, but not coming back to the States
Apartment paid for
8-14 year olds
Option B: Apply to a public school
Rural Location
Six Month contract
Roundtrip Airfare
Less Hours
Only 7k for 6 months though
Apartment paid for
5-7 year olds most likely
The process is more lengthy. You have to submit recommendations, submit a lesson plan, have an in person interview at the Korean Embassy.
I could apply to both which I plan on doing, but I think option A is the better option. If I hate S. Korea, Option B would be better since I can leave after six months. However, Option B pays shit and you're living in the middle of no where. It is less hours though and these "hawgons" or "academics" which are Option A sometimes are known to overwork teachers..
