It would suck though because the MA governor would put a Republican in senate in her place but in re-election I think a Democrat could easily win again.

she needs to go after moderates, swing voters, independents, etc. those are the people who decide elections every single time. going after the youth vote is stupid, if she's not inspiring enough to get the youth vote by herself, then she's not going to magically get it just by picking a 40-something inexperienced mayor as a VP. in reality the VP pick is almost never consequential enough to completely win over a demographic, but she can and should use the VP pick to win a state. keeping VA blue is a pretty good bet, the only other option that would be good is sherrod brown but obviously kasich would name the replacement senator which sucks. otherwise he'd be the perfect pick

tim kaine is the perfect pick. the youth can fuck right off. elizabeth warren is hated by a TON of moderates because she's seen as the left's version of the tea party and the bernie voters who won't vote hillary aren't going to magically vote for hillary just because warren is on the ticket. they already hate her for not endorsing bernie. castro is going to be lampooned as completely inexperienced and green (apparently he turned down obama's offer to be secretary of homeland security because he was scared of a terrorist attack happening during his watch and how it would damage his chances of being president). mccaskill doesn't really win any youth votes so i have no idea how she's any better than kaine by your logic. swing states of florida, NC, indiana (not really a swing anyway, it seems pretty well-suited for trump), all have disgustingly conservative governors who would pick a right wing tool as a replacement senator
