Recently it has come to our attention that several students have been referencing the phrase, “Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life,” and then inserting characters from Shrek in various phrases such as, “Go Shrek Yourself.” This has been mainly reported as being heard among 6th grade students, although students in other grades have heard of it as well.
At this point no students are receiving consequences for the use of these phrases, however, we wanted to make you aware of the seriousness of this situation as, “Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life” is a YouTube video which is quite graphic and horrifyingly inappropriate. Many of the students are aware that it is a YouTube video and may have already watched it or be thinking about looking at it. Disappointingly, one does not need to be of a certain age to view the video. We wanted you to have this information so you could check in with your child(ren) about this content.
