Even though Survivor: Samoa was basically the Russell Hantz Show and he was pretty much the most interesting thing about the season, I still love the season, I mean Russell's antics made this season great on their own in my opinion, burning a tribemate's socks and sabotaging them was beyond hilarious

There were may other good things about Samoa too. Shambo's 1-sided feud with Laura. The person who almost nobody knew existed almost won. Erik was a good strategist throughout the pre-merge he just shot himself at the merge, Dave Ball was just great, and Ben made the first part of the pre-merge VERY entertaining.
Honestly Samoa as a season is underrated and I think there are many more things to it than just Russell
Laura was a great player in Samoa and overall she is a good player. I think she's very overshadowed because of Russell's character in Samoa. Had Russel, Natalie, Jaison and Mick and the Galu tribe stuck together I feel she had a shot of winning.
My biggest gripe with Samoa is that it could have been so much better than it was portrayed. Look, I get it- give more camera time to the crazy entertaining people. As much as I hate him, Hantz deserved a lot of screentime. I've always had this stance, I would rather have 3 crazy Tony Vlachos scenes than have 1 Tony scene and then one with Jefra talking about Jesus or some other boring shit.
But at some point you have to draw a line. EVERYONE in Samoa not named Russell or Shambo are so underdeveloped. You get vague clues as to who these people are rather than knowing them. About mid merge I tried ranking the cast and realized I didn't know these people. It's like everyone in the cast are just filler slots, which is unfortunate because it feels like we could have gotten some great characters.
I will always stand by Subjective editing (if you're important to the overall story, or are generally entertaining, you get more screentime), but Samoa is an example of it gone wrong.
If the person who is more relevant to the storyline should get more screentime then russells justification does not need to be fought against. He got more screentime but he did mostly everything important and no one ever challenged him towards the end. He always got what he wanted. I do think galu should have gotten more screentime pre merge but they kept winning and there was barely any tension aside from shambo being a outcast and russell s being a leader. I dont know thats just how i see it
