- Contrary to some weird belief, I don't believe that my music taste is better than anyone else's, although I have no idea if it's useful to post that because every year there are some idiots crying about their favs. This list is for you all to have some fun and laugh at possible comments I make. Yes, I did have a lot of experience in music, going to music school etc., that doesn't make my opinion more valid than anyone else's.
15. BLACKPINK - Whistle
Now that 2NE1's gone, YG has to milk the female group profits from BLACKPINK. Pretty sensible move, and most of their songs are actual bops...except for this one. The issues with this song include:
- A weirdly sparse production that manages to sound annoying at the same time
- The verses are pretty nice and so is the pre-chorus but they completely come out of nowhere
- The chorus. What the fuck is that?
Honestly, did the songwriting department at YG not get paid or something? That is some of the worst rhymes in K-pop I have heard in awhile, and that is extremely surprising considering the terrible music that happened before 2009 in the world of Korean music. Honestly, being forced to listen to this suckage just to include it on this list is a painful experience, but not as painful as the next 14 songs...
14. Crush - Don't Forget (feat. Taeyeon)
Crush's popularity in Korea can be compared to the one of The Weeknd's in the USA. This boring R&B junk, clearly inspired by some boring songs from Geeks and Noel from previous years, just shows that Koreans are really in denial in terms of their music taste. The inclusion of Taeyeon doesn't lift it up at all, it makes it even more dull instead because in her part some of the layers are switched off and those elements happened to be the most interesting parts of the song - not that they were good in first place, but it just shows how lazy this single is.
13. T-ara - Tiamo
Honestly, what the fuck happened to T-ara's music quality? This mid-tempo, christmas-bullshity, clearly inspired by Jessie J's dull "Price Tag" is probably the worst T-ara feature since that weird cover of "Round And Round." I was already disappointed with the middle-of-the-road "So Crazy" in 2015...A group with such a great reputation musically (well, not in Korea of course, because they still hate T-ara just for existing) with tunes like "Sugar Free," "Bo Peep Bo Peep" or "Roly Poly" should know better, but then even T-ara themselves admitted that it was a song released for the fans rather than something they could have been bothered with, so at least they have a valid excuse there. Meanwhile, they are still cashing on Chinese and Vietnamese markets...let's just hope they will continue to do that with better songs. And with less Boram attempting to rap.
12. I.O.I - Dream Girls
Produce 101 was definitely a hit among the viewers, both domestically and internationally, so obviously the expectations were huge for their first promoted debut. Not only did they not meet these expectations, they actually didn't even make the 10% requirement. This sounds like a mash of WJSN's horrible "MoMoMo" (which barely escaped the inclusion on this list) and the poor elements of "Catch Me," and the result is pretty subpar on every level, thanks to the messy clusterfuck of a production. Thankfully, their releases afterwards would always be better than this, not that it was hard to achieve that in first place.
