Notes:
- Feature songs released between Jan 1 2016 to Dec 31 2016 are eligible
- This is based on my personal opinion - I mean there's a reason it's MY LIST. Please do not take any offense from what I think of. Strictly my own thoughts
- Contrary to some weird belief, I don't believe that my music taste is better than anyone else's, although I have no idea if it's useful to post that because every year there are some idiots crying about their favs. This list is for you all to have some fun and laugh at possible comments I make. Yes, I did have a lot of experience in music, going to music school etc., that doesn't make my opinion more valid than anyone else's.
11. Laboum - Shooting Love
Whenever this song is mentioned, the first word that comes to my mind is "annoying," closely followed by "overproduced." If you listen to Oh My Girl's "Liar Liar," you can hear some similarities in terms of the melody, both with rather messy productions, and the chorus sounds like a cheap version of Twice's only good song (and I'm not talking about slightly above average "Cheer Up" or unexciting "TT"). However, these elements are not really the worst here, the biggest crime that happened to the way the verses are put together with the melodic line and instrumental in general. It is clear to me that their producers tried to follow a trend of filling every empty layer with some music and failed completely, and it's a shame because Laboum has got some amazing singles on their discography such as "What About You" or "AALOW AALOW."
10. DIA - The Love
This is a kind of a song that not only doesn't gain you any fans - it actually makes you lose some of them. This insipid, mid-tempo bullshit shows that MBK has lost its spark at producing good ballads like in the past, the last time their slower song sounded good was with already-disbanded The SeeYa. Maybe having KKS as their CEO wasn't that bad of an idea, because at least musically he had some clear ideas on what to do. Meanwhile, DIA's "The Love" sounds like a baby-ish, boring song that would appear on the credits part of their career, because so far they haven't been finding much success except for Chaeyeon who is being overworked to death.
9. Girls' Generation - Sailing (0805)
Yes Alexandra, you knew that was coming. Another lazy ballad from SM Station - not only are SM producers absolutely dogshit at creating them, they did it for Station which probably indicates that this shitty song was on the backburner because they wouldn't release something that terrible as an official comeback for a group like SNSD. Mind you, this is still better than the awful "Party," but that was the concept of summer comeback, so any song of even lower quality than their first 2015 comeback would have fit that purpose. To add insult to the injury, the music video contains elements that were present from their past videos and singles, so you better get your anti-depressants while thinking about so many better song that Girls' Generation had. No wonder why Jessica quit, and although her music isn't great (Love Me The Same barely escaped this list), it's still better than 3-4 songs SNSD were forced to have between 2015-2016.
8. Lee Hi - Breathe
I really liked her first album, almost every single she released there was a bop - I still listen to "Rose" and "It's Over" from time to time. Her collaboration with Akdong Musician's Suhyun was pretty meh, but I've grown to take it rather neutrally. However, her 2016 comebacks were just...disappointing to say it lightly. "My Star" was ok, but nothing special, "Hold My Hand" sounded like YG decided to cut down on the production midway through the process of creation, while "Breathe" is just a typical horsecrap ballad that Koreans seem to love for absolutely no logical reasons. Forcing us to listen just to her vocal isn't really a way to get international fans going, the production is absolutely terrible, as the layers here are built in a way to make sure that you only listen to Lee Hi's voice rather than actual music, and worst of all, this song is almost 5 MINUTES long. I turned off by the 1:30 mark, who in the right mind can listen to this whole thing without being in pain?
