Rick's Top 40 Favourite K-Pop songs of 2016 (36-33)

Feb 7, 2017 by ricktworick1
To balance out the worst of list, the best of one is larger so the butthurt goes away!

Notes:
- Feature songs released between Jan 1 2016 to Dec 31 2016 are eligible
- This is based on my personal opinion - I mean there's a reason it's MY LIST. Please do not take any offense from what I think of. Strictly my own thoughts
- Contrary to some weird belief, I don't believe that my music taste is better than anyone else's, although I have no idea if it's useful to post that because every year there are some idiots crying about their favs. This list is for you all to have some fun and laugh at possible comments I make. Yes, I did have a lot of experience in music, going to music school etc., that doesn't make my opinion more valid than anyone else's.

36. Lovelyz - Destiny

It's really a shame that Woollim decided that it was a good idea for Lovelyz to make a comeback at the same time as fucking TWICE and SEVENTEEN. Another chance for this semi-popular group to become an a-tier got wasted, but at least Lovelyz showed that they are here to stay for awhile. While this isn't as good as brilliant "Hi~" or "Ah-Choo," it's still up there among the innocent concept songs, definitely much better than what A-Pink is doing at the moment. Pity that they can't really compare with GFRIEND in terms of popularity, guess having a fake lesbian in a group didn't help that much in terms on publicity. It was a dest-uh-nee.

35. Brave Girls - High Heels

Brave Bros gave his own group not 1, but 2 great songs (and one average "Yoohoo"), which definitely shows that in terms of musical quality, this producer has improved significantly in the past few years. Although a bit sonically harsh at times, the song itself is built in a simple yet effective structure where the pace is maintained throughout the whole tune, except for that third verse which isn't really bad either. I wish the chorus itself was a little bit stronger, but as long as Brave Girls get good songs like this, I'm satisfied.

34. Snuper - Platonic Love

This rip-off of A-ha's "Take On Me" isn't as good as the attempt made by IU & Fiestar, but it's still one of the better 80s interpretations in K-pop. It's just a shame that when Korean producers try do this sort of a thing, they'd usually fill it with overload of elements that do not fit the structure of an 80s inspired pop song, but it's not only in Korea where that happens, Western artists try to branch out these days with this kind of sound with not many achieving a good result. With the only good recent attempt of 80s-inspired-pop made by Carly Rae Jepsen, it's a nice change to see that K-pop can do that as well.

33. Jung In - UUU

Probably a song that nobody expected here, because it's a bit apparent what I think of most Korean ballads. Her vocals are pretty prominent, but she sings in a way that it really complements the production, although at times she is at the borderline of being a vocal olympist. Nevertheless, this is basically a song that Taeyeon probably wished to get from SM, with some simple, but rather effective melodies.
