that as a kid you could NEVER beat but then revisited and then u were like "shit that was not that bad/super easy"
for me there were a few cases in particular. the first was super mario sunshine. i had NO idea how to properly use the water gun and do all the extra jumping so i hardly got any shine brights on my first run. then i revisted the game like 2-3 years later and was slaying until i got to THIS abomination http://sethbaker_1.tripod.com//sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/ss_ms_pre03.jpg I tried playing again a few years later AGAIN but my disk was scratched beyond playability :(
the second game showcases how dumb i was as a kid when it came to video games. the game was luigi's mansion and i had NO idea how to use the vacuum. i would walk around and i had no idea what to do with the ghosts, where to go, the objective of the game. i knew 0 information about the game. years later my bff in elementary school was like "omg james you know what game i revisited and is actually AMAZING?... LUIGI'S MANSION" So then i went to my luigi's mansion and opened the box and the disk was GONE. like 1 year ago a played it on an emulator... only to learn the game is EASY AS SHIT and the only reason i had no idea what i was doing was because i skipped all the opening text that explain everything you need to know all at once
The third case is kingdom hearts 1. On my first run as a kid it took me HOURS to complete the first 2 or so worlds. Then i got to one of either tarzan's world/wonderland (i think its wonderland because to this day i still need to look up a guide to pass the evidence bit). knowing what you need to do in some of these words was IMPOSSIBLE to know to me as a 19 year old when i replayed it for the 4th or so time so needless to say i did not even pass the second world on my first go. Then years later (reoccuring theme?) i retried and was able to get to gauntlet of hell of boss battles. you literally have to fight like 10 bosses in a row. needless to say i could not beat the 6th or so boss in a row FOR MY LIFE. The playthrough when i was 19 i managed to beat it but damn it was challenging even for me now.
this turned into a bit of a rambling topic but im curious if anyone has similar experiences with other games
pokemon gold, my only decently leveled pokemon (and really only pokemon) i used was feraligatr
and it literally had cut rock smash scratch and rage so imagine how i did against MORTY
