People with ASD are different and not perceived as being 'normal', so it is now acceptable to use it as an insult. It is almost gaining the same traction as 'retard' (another word that is used as an insult which I hate). Disgusting tbh.
I play online games on another site and it's the same there, if you do something stupid they go straight to calling you autistic or a retard.
TBH people don't realise that a lot of the most successful people all over the word are ASD. Like if you go to any of the big computing companies, a lot of the staff will have high functioning autism (especially people in engineering, programming and coding departments) and are more successful than I will ever be.
I just read an article about MI6 recruiting new computer specialists to counter hacking and so on and the head of the recruitment was saying that the majority of the candidates were on the spectrum and see the world the differently, so that is why they make the best programmers etc.

In terms of the autism goes, I have Non-Verbal Learning Disorder and it is a form of Asperger's and I'm made fun of all the time because people think it's fake or I use it as a crutch.
