The casual Survivor fan watches each episode knowing that anything can happen between 8:00 and 9:00, but the significance of what transpired on last night's episode of Survivor:Cambodia could go down as the single biggest idol play in the entire series.
Years ago, when the idols were first introduced, nobody knew just how powerful they could be. They have been wasted, they have been played to just delay the inevitable, or that rare occurrence when they are played and completely change the course of the game.
We've seen our fair share of notable idol plays, such as Russell in Samoa to blindside Kelly, the infamous double idol play in Caramoan that took the former special agent out of the game, or even the idol play in Worlds Apart, that ousted another one named Kelly.
But this season, it was one that shared the name of some who fell to an idol play that used one. Kelley Wentworth found her idol during the opening immunity challenge, and held onto it until the Final 12.
Outnumbered 9 to 3, the easy thing for any alliance would be to split the votes 5-4 and flush out any chance of an idol. History has shown that splitting the votes usually never works, but in this rare occasion when the votes weren't split, it came back to haunt them.
Joe was quoted last season after Jenn's idol play by saying "Savage", did he randomly predict the future?
Andrew Savage will always be used as an example when big alliances are discussing the idea of a vote split. To anyone who doesn't trust the vote split idea, you're better off splitting the votes than not, especially in the case of what we have just watched.
For your enjoyment, here is once again the idol play that rocked the season
