Survivor Recap: Fiji

Feb 14, 2016 by DumbGinger
This is the latest entry in my Survivor Recap Project series. For an overview of the series, check out the original post here: http://www.tengaged.com/blog/DumbGinger/6922478/survivor-recap-project
Feel free to PYN to be tagged in future entries!

Episode 1
The Survivors show up on a very nice beach well-fit for living with no sign of Jeff
Jeff flies over the castaways and parachute drops a crate. The strong young men struggle to open it, while Yau-Man shuffles over and easily cracks it open.
The crate contains a note, a map, and flint. They are instructed to find the hidden cache of lumber and supplies, and build a shelter as specified in attatched blueprints
Sylvia the architect takes the leadership role in building the shelter
Erica forms a pseudo-alliance with Jessica
They din't finish the shelter before nightfall and sit under a tarp all night
Dreamz discusses how his social strategy is to be as loud and goofy as possible so people know he's present
Dreamz won't stfu while people are trying to sleep and it annoys everyone. He and Rocky get in a fight
Jeff finally shows up, and asks how the project went. Everyone agrees Sylvia was the main leader, so Jeff has her pick the two tribes.
Moto: Cassandra, Lilliana, Stacey, Lisi, Dreamz, Boo, Gary, Alex, Edgardo
Ravu: Michelle, Erica, Rita, Jessica, Rocky, Earl, Yau-Man, Anthony, Mookie
Sylvia, being left without a tribe, is sent to Exile Island. She'll join the losing tribe after the first vote.
In addition to immunity, the winning tribe gets the great shelter at the great beach
Moto wins immunity
Rocky joins Erica and Jessica's alliance
Rocky discusses the vote with Earl, saying a girl should go. Rocky keeps his alliance members out of the conversation, and they like Michele, so they choose to target Rita
Mookie throws out Jessica's name, and Earl defends her (without making things too obvious)
The majority seems to be for Jessica, as she struggled with the puzzle some, but Rocky and Erica refuse to turn on her
In a rather spread-out vote, her alliance wasn't enough to save her from the tribe's wishes, and Jessica is the first voted out of Survivor: Fiji
Favorites as of this episode: Earl, Yau-Man

Episode 2
While Moto is literally so full they have a surplus of food, Ravu is severely dehydrated and starved
Boo manages to hurt himself in nearly every way imaginable, including jabbing his eye on a sign, hitting his hand with an axe, and breaking the hammock while laying in it
Sylvia officially joins the Ravu tribe
Yau-Man, when hugging her, opens her bag some and looks to see if she has the idol. She doesn't.
Sylvia is easily an outsider. Michelle dislikes her, and Anthony, Rocky and Mookie all agree she's next to go
Moto wins Immunity/Reward, and send Earl to exile (where he'll skip tribal council)
Erica got fairly heated with her tribemates during the challenge, and that makes some prefer her to go rather than Sylvia
Rocky and Mookie try switching the vote to Erica
Anthony wants to stick with getting Sylvia. He gets Michelle and Rita on his side.
Ultimately, Anthony and friends couldn't get the majority, and Erica is voted out
Favorites: Earl, Yau-Man, Rocky, Alex

Episode 3
Michelle starts the first fire on Ravu in the game
Moto wins another Reward and re-sends Sylvia to Exile
Gary has breathing issues after taking a hard fall in the challenge
A broken rib is suspected by some, but the medical team gives him some meds and keep him in the game, at least until tomorrow
During the gross eat-off immunity challenge, Mookie taunts the hell out of Lisi. Boo gets a bit pissy at that and he and Rocky argue a bit.
Moto wins immunity once again
The vote is pretty easily Sylvia; the only concern is whether she has the idol or not
Rocky sets the backup vote with Rita as Anthony
Mookie, seperately, gets pissed at Anthony for a crappy challenge performance. He gets Sylvia and Michelle to vote for him. He also discusses it with Earl, but as usual, Earl plays it pretty neutral
Mookie publically reveals how upset he is with Anthony at Tribal
Michelle goes against Mookie and votes for Sylvia
This time, Mookie doesn't get his way, and Sylvia is voted out (by one vote, meaning Michelle sent her home)
Favorites: Earl, Yau-Man, Rocky, Alex

Episode 4
Earl gets everyone together and has people talk and get everything out in the open
Rocky pretty much goes off on Anthony
Anthony get pretty hurt by Mookie and Rocky wanting him out so bad, but he wants to stick it out
Gary definitely isn't getting any better
Moto once again wins reward, largely due to Anthony. Moto sends Yau-Man to exile.
Rocky throws a big fit back at camp, throwing rocks and all.
"Why don't we just go to tribal council right now? That's all we do. why don't we just call up Jeff now on the Jeff phone and say we're ready to vote somone today" -Rocky
Earl and Anthony bond and become tight over their dislike of Rocky
Lilliana flirts with the guys, especially Edgardo
Gary officialy gets med evac'd/quits
Rocky tries to lift the mood around Ravu. He walks around naked and wears a bra with coconut boobs. EDIT: Rocky decides to attend the challenge along with the aforementioned bra + cocoboobs
This immunity challenge was actually close but again Moto wins
However, a twist is introduced; Moto now has to either A) Go to tribal council tonight despite winning or B) Remain immune, but switch camps with Ravu
They opt to keep their camp and go to tribal council
Dreamz publically announces that he believes Lisi or Cassandra has to go
Edgardo, in the pressure, publically admits he's probably voting Cassandra
Alex tries to put an end to all this nonsense
Lilliana doesn't necessarily want Cassandra gone but doesn't want to go against the general consensus so she's voting Cassandra
However, the strong fivesome of Boo, Stacey, Lisi, Alex, and Ed decide to target Lilliana (Alex is against this, since they're now even with Ravu on numbers and thinks Lilliana is more useful in challenges)
With the spread votes for Lisi/Cassandra, the foursome (as Edgardo didn't vote with them) is able to get the majority and vote out Lilliana
Favorites: Alex, Earl, Rocky, Yau-Man

Episode 5
Earl and Yau-Man both have idol clues, and sorta agree to help one another find the idol (Earl is more focused on gaining Yau-man's trust than actually finding the idol)
Earl gets the tribe on a big crab hunt so that Yau-Man can find the idol back at camp
The party continues over at Moto, with their extravagent shelter, multitude of fruit, and comforts like couches, hammocks, silverware, etc
Rocky does his usual Rocky thing and yells angerly at Moto. He's given a chance to let his anger out, as this reward is the Sumo challenge (where you push your opponenent into the water with the blocks). Rocky faces Dreamz and loses LOL
Yau-Man was the only person on his tribe to score. Surely Jeff and the production team has to realize how unfair of a challenge this was with the malnourished and dying Ravu vs the "simply on a tropical vacation" Moto. Earl is sent back to Exile.
Stacy gets pissy at Dreamz for not knowing how to make coffee. Alex in coffesional expresses how he thinks Lisi and Stacy are just downright rude.
Edgardo agrees with Alex in confessional. Stacy and Lisi believe they're solidly in charge of the tribe with their fivesome, but with how cocky they're acting, that can quickly change
Rita and Michelle's fashion talk annoys the men of Ravu
Alex explains to Lisi and Stacy that, assuming they keep winning immunities and merge with their 7, while the Motos may techinically be the majority, Dreamz and Cassandra can and will easily flip sides because of the way they treat them. Alex suggests treating them nicer and making them feel more included. Neither seem to grasp this concept.
Edgardo and Alex make a social move to get on Dreamz and Cassandra's good sides, despite the other's mistreating of them
Lisi jogs onto the course in the immunity challenge and instantly faceplants LOOOL
Another VERY close immunity challenge, but once again Moto wins
Michelle throws out Anthony's name for the vote, and Mookie, Rita, and Yau-Man agree
Rocky and Anthony are sick of Rita and want her out, however. Rocky brings it up to Mookie.
Ultimately, Rocky and Anthony manage to sway Mookie, and Yau-Man + Earl decide to join them, voting out Rita
Favorites: Alex, Earl, Yau-Man, Rocky

Episode 6
The tribes are being dropped and re-picked, by Edgardo and Earl (they volunteered without knowing what for). They must alternate from tribe to tribe when selecting.
Edgardo's tribe: Ed, Mookie, Alex, Rocky, Dreamz, Anthony
Earl's tribe: Earl, Boo, Michelle, Cassandra, Yau-Man, Stacey
Lisi isn't chosen, so she's sent to Exile and will join the losing tribe after tribal
Lisi throws weird lowkey fit and says she wouldn't mind going home???
Ed and Earl randomly pick a buff to decide tribes; Earl's tribe becomes new Moto, Edgardo's tribe becomes new Ravu
The all-male Ravu bro out (minus Anthony, who kinda akwardly sits quietly)
Cassandra identifies herself as an outsider on old Moto to Earl and Yau-Man, so Earl goes to work getting her on his side. He also has Yau-Man and Michelle locked down.
Alex, sinilar to Earl, realizes he needs to swing someone over. He knows Rocky and Dreamz don't click well, and Anthony will most likely be a challenge liability, so he goes to work on Mookie
An alliance is solidified between Dreamz, Mookie, Alex, and Edgardo; this alliance will later be known as The Four Horsemen
History repeats itself as in another close immunity challenge, Moto beats Ravu
Dreamz wants Rocky out, due to their rivalry
Anthony goes around and asks people to tell him if he's the vote, and makes his case against Rocky
Rocky continues to push Anthony around camp, telling him waht to do constantly
Anthony and Rocky once again fight at tribal council
While Edgardo and Alex aren't happy with how Rocky treats Anthony, they opt for strength rather than likablility and Anthony gets the boot
Favorites: Earl, Yau-man, Alex

Episode 7
Lisi kinda rewinds and definitely still wants to be in the game
Earl and Yau-Man retry their distract-and-search idol method, this time at the Moto camp (with better tools). Yau-Man actually finds it!
Ravu actually wins a challenge and Earl is sent to Exile
Yau-man makes a fake idol by painting a face and the initials I.I. on a coconut. He buries it where the actual one was LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Michelle falls of the caller's platform during the blindfold challenge due to dancing around LOOOOOOOl
Moto wins immunity
Edgardo, knowing the merge is approaching, values loyalty more than challenge prowess, and therefore wants Rocky out
Lisi lets Alex and Edgardo know that the idol is located on the Ravu beach
Mookie doesn't like the idea of being the last old Ravu member though, so he tells Dreamz he made a promise to Rocky not to vote him, and tries to convince the others to not vote Rocky
He gets through to Dreamz, who is now on board for sending Lisi home
Dreamz comes around though, and Rocky is voted out
Favorites: Earl, Michelle, Yau-Man, Alex

Episode 8
Ed and Alex fill Mookie in on the idol clues
The trio dig around right and find the idol right by a sleeping Lisi and find the idol!
The horseman agree to share the idol, however they aren't going to tell Lisi or Dreamz about it (they may tell Dreamz later)
Lisi admits in a confessional that she doesn't take the challenges seriously
The survivors have to perform some weird Fijian dance-off for the reward challenge, which of course Moto wins. They re-send Lisi to Exile.
Earl and Michelle decide to target Stacey rather than Boo, as they feel Stacey will go right back into old Ravu's arms, while Earl is on Boo's good side (He's on Stacey's too, but gets along better with Boo)
Edgardo makes sure to keep an eye on Dreamz once the merge comes, as he might go with Cassandra
In another crushing defeat, Moto wins immunity
"I'm surrounded my big ol losers" -Lisi Linares
Lisi decides she doesn't really care if she stays or not anymore, and asks Edgardo and Alex to vote her out
Lisi changes her mind 10 minutes before tribal though and she wants to stay again, and tries getting Dreamz out
Dreamz and Lisi fight at tribal (Dreamz refers to a soliloquoy as a "shalingua")
The guys decide to send home Lisi in the end
Favorites: Earl, Yau-Man, Alex, Dreamz

Episode 9
Mookie says the idol is firstly for himself, and if using it with his alliance is best for him, THEN he'll use it on them
The Horseman all get a person to try and bring to their side; Dreamz will focus on Cassandra, Mookie on Michelle, and Alex on Stacey. Ed will help them in any way possible.
*MERGE*
The merge tribe will live at Moto's camp, however the extragence of it has been taken away (Merge tribe name is Bula Bula)\
Stacey and Michelle agree to stay together
Boo plans to take a backseat on Bula Bula, as he's not sure where he stands
Mookie and Dreamz talk to Cassandra and Yau, and plan to vote out Boo
Alex confirms this plan with Stacey
Mookie, without discussing with Alex or Ed, tells Dreamz about the idol in front of Alex
Mookie doesn't really trust Alex and Ed wanting to bring in Stacey, as it benefits them and not himself
As a twist, the merge tribe is divided into 2 teams for the immunity challenge. Whoever wins doesnt go to tribal.
Alex, Dreamz, Mookie, Michelle, and Stacey lose and are sent directly to tribal council without strategy time
Alex drops hints at tribal for people to vote for Michelle
Although Mookie actually flipped and voted for Stacey, Dreamz stayed loyal and Michelle is the victim of a bullshit twist, voted out 3-2
Favorites: Alex, Earl, Yau-Man, Michelle (RIP)

Episode 10
Alex, feeling a bit paranoid after Mookie voted Stacey, gets the idea for the Horseman to rotate who holds onto the idol each day going forward
Mookie isn't ok with this, but knows he kinda has to comply. He tells Dreamz about it and Dreamz wants to flip.
Earl has to scramble a bit with Michelle gone, but uses his good relationship with Boo to pull him in as a replacement (however he doesn't really trust him)
Reward challenge is the majority answer challenge, where if you guess the majority opinion, you can take someone down a peg. Designed to reveal pecking orders.
Stacy is instantly taken out by Boo, Cassandra, and Yau. The Horsemen take out Boo first. Dreamz finishes Alex off. Cassandra finishes Yau off.
Cassandra wins reward. She sends Mookie to Exile, and brings Dreamz, Boo, and Yau-Man with her on reward. She knew she needed to get in good with Boo and Dreamz for her alliance, and Yau-Man just needed a break.
Mookie guesses that Earl has an idol
Boo is solidified in the Earl alliance, and Dreamz is at least having doubts. Earl's alliance officially decides to target Alex next.
Dreamz tells Earl and Cassandra about Mookie currently having the idol. Earl kinda tricks Dreamz into saying what it looks like, so Earl knows it's legit,
Yau-Man wins immunity
Yau talks to Stacy and tries getting her to vote Alex
Alex also talks to Stacy, but she seems less willing to go with him
Stac's allegiance is to the majority, she says
Since it looks like Stacy may not side with the horsemen, Edgardo wants to use the idol on Alex, sending Earl home
Mookie gives Alex the idol in a slick super spy-esque drop, but Dreamz sees this and tells Earl's alliance. Earl's alliance simply switches the vote to Mookie to catch them off guard and hopefully waste the idol on Alex
Edgardo gets the idea to target Cassandra instead of Earl, since "she's in the middle of their alliance"
Earl's alliance, when Dreamz leaves, decide to vote Edgardo instead of Mookie OR Alex, to completely blindside the Horsemen
Dreamz tells Alex that Earl's alliance is definitely voting him
Alex plays the idol on himself. Both alliances smile smugly, for different reasons.
The smiles are quickly swiped from Ed and Alex's face as Earl's plan goes through, voting Edgardo out
Favorites: Alex, Earl, Yau-Man

Episode 11
Earl and Stacey convince Dreamz that voting Ed wasn't about them not trusting him and he believes them
Dreamz tells Alex and Mookie that he didn't betray them. Dreamz actually believes he's back on their good sides; Alex and Mookie know he's an idiot
An idol is rehidden since Alex played one
During a fairly physical reward challenge, Boo injures his knee, but keeps going once it pops back into place
Boo's team loses reward and he's sent to Exile
Alex uses his reward win with Earl, Stacey, and Dreamz to try and get in good with them, but it instead ends up fairly awkward
Mookie figures Yau-Man might have the idol, not Earl. He goes through his things and confirms it.
Mookie and Alex plan to call out Yau-Man at tribal so his alliance no longer will trust him, but Cassandra and Stacey were hiding in the woods when they discussed it, and they got caught (however, Cassandra and Stacey didn't really hear what they were saying)
Alex and Mookie re-plan, and now directly confront Yau right now and make him reveal to everyone he has the idol
Yau tells Alex and Mookie to fuck off, and he tells his alliance about his idol. His alliance is much more concerned with the fact that Mookie and Alex tried blackmailing him than the fact that he actually had the idol
For immunity, the survivors play a pretty cool challenge- essentially a large version of Battleship. In the very first move, Dreamz hits one of his own tiles LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Stacy wins immunity
Boo tells Earl and friends about the new clue
Just in case they found a new idol, Earl and Friends decide to split the vote between Mookie and Alex
Alex votes for Mookie in an attempt to stay in the game. This ruins Earl and Friends' split plan and Mookie is sent home
Favorites: Earl, Alex, Yau-Man

Episode 12
Earl gets slightly pissy after tribal, since he thought splitting the vote was a bad idea in the first place. He has Boo break up a conversation between Stacy and Alex (Stacy was trying to stay on Alex's good side).
Alex goes into "ninja mode" trying to stay out of view as much as possible and trying to observe where loyalties lie
Cassandra, Earl, and Yau agree to make Dreamz #4 in their alliance
Yau would secretly prefer Stacy over Dreamz though
Boo wins reward, sending Earl to exile and winning an advantage in the next immunity challenge
Alex notices Boo annoys people and launches an anti-Boo campaign, and Dreamz joins him
Boo narrowly wins immunity
Alex makes a pretty convincing case to Cassandra, and she considers voting off Yau
Earl sees through Alex's bullshit though
Stacy decides she will vote with Alex + Dreamz and vote Yau out only if Cassandra does, so Cassandra is in power tonight
Earl actually managed to reel his alliance members back in, and everyone voted for Alex
Favorites: Alex (RIP), Yau-Man, Earl

Episode 13
Boo creates a secret path to the water well, where he can sneak up on anyone there, hide nearby, and hear anything they say
While Boo does this in an attempt to not be blindsided, everyone else is back at camp, talking about how they're going to blindside him
Dreamz, the only one who doesn't own a car, begs his tribemates to let him have the car in the reward challenge
Yau-Man wins the car, but proposes a deal to Dreamz- If Dreamz wins immunity at final 4, he will give it to Yau, in exchange for the car. Dreamz swears to god and accepts. Yau then sends himself to Exile.
Dreamz thinks about it afterwards and he figures he should get rid of Yau before the final 4 so he doesn't have to follow through
Boo wins immunity
Yau shares the clue with Earl. Earl goes on an idol hunt later on and finds the idol (he shows it to Yau)
Dreamz pitches getting rid of Yau-Man to Stacy. Since she was next to go otherwise, she jumps on the opoortunity. Dreamz then further tries to convince Cassandra
Stacy lies to Earl, saying she accepts her fate and will go home, so that Earl/Yau don't play an idol. Earl seems to believe Stacy.
Yau gets some bad vibes before tribal, despite everyone saying Stacy is the vote. He decides to play it safe and uses his idol on himself
It's good that he did, otherwise he'd have been voted out 4-2. He did, however, and Stacy is sent home
Favorites: Yau, Earl

Episode 14
Cassandra knows Yau and Earl won't vote for each other, so she wants to keep herself, Boo, and Dreamz united to take at least one of them out
Yau-Man wins immunity
Everyone including Boo himself know that he's the vote
Boo makes the case, though, to vote Dreamz out to Earl instead
Earl seriously considers taking Boo to finals, as Yau will get votes for being an underdog
Yau also considers keeping Boo
Boo ultimately does get the boot, though
Dreamz plans on following through and giving Yau the necklace if he wins
Dreamz wins final immunity
Yau is counting on Dreamz to follow through on the deal and vote him off when he does
After much deliberation, Dreamz ends up betraying Yau-Man by keeping the necklace, and as a result, Yau-Man is voted out 3-1
At FTC, the Horsemen are visibly bitter, especially Alex, who is one of the most bitter jurors i've seen
Lisi, also incredibly bitter, insults Cassandra's water shoes and tries to make Dreamz look stupid by asking him how many zero's are in 1,000,000
Cassandra gives a very bad FTC performance, Dreamz gives possibly the very worst i've ever seen, and Earl gives a decently good one. This, along with his smooth control of the game earns Earl every vote to win.
Only receiving one vote all game (and it was a throwaway vote by Rita), Earl is nearly the first person in Survivor history to play a perfect game

Closing Thoughts: You know, Fiji has a reputation as one of the worst seasons ever, but I have to say I certainly enjoyed it. The game, from the very first episode was broken. The Moto tribe twist, where one camp would always be better, was horribly broken. The producers realized how unfair it was and spent the entirety of the pre-merge trying to make up for it with more BS twists (like telling Moto they either have to give up the immunity they JUST won or give Ravu their camp, which obviously wasn't a planned twist). There's also the pseudo-merge twist that fucked over Michelle Yi, which is BS. I can admit that this season is severely flawed. The cast is weak af, with many irrelevants and blatant assholes. That being said, I still enjoyed it. It's like a car crash that you know is bad but still stare at it as you drive by. Rocky, Lisi, Dreamz, all stupid assholes, but they're so painfully unaware that they crack me up. Earl is easily one of the best winners of all time, and frankly I consider him the first true perfect game, although technically it isn't the case. I think that when he wasn't incredibly bitter, Alex was a very bright guy who did very well with the bullshit thrown at him. The only moment I genuinely disliked was Dreamz going back on the car deal. I love villains so much, but that wasn't right. The pain on Yau's face killed me. Dreamz isn't a villain, he's just a fucking idiot.

Next season: Considering One World, Caramoan, Australia, and Cambodia. I'll also be doing one for Kaoh Rong as the episodes come out, so stay tuned!
