The Fashionista of the day is determined by the Ts value of all the new designs that you received the previous day. (whether you bought them or they were gifted to you).

Yesterday I got gifted twice: Diamond Necklace (399 Ts), Rainbow Sky BackGround (608 Ts), which is a total of 1007 Ts worth of new designs, which I guess is the most out of everyone yesterday since I'm the Top Fashionista today.

I don't think price of designs means anything at all. When I was fashionista, I got gifted two designs worth 1 Ts the day before, and I got another also worth 1 Ts, so it's something else.
