▪️ 𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌 ▪️ boyfriend ─ “Car Seat Headrest - Beach Life-In-Death”
OK so i must admit i heard this twice while writing the critique (for much as it's LONG AS FUCK) cuz being ESL isn't easy
1st listen - i vibed A LOT with the rhythm and anger in this. musically wise, it's exactly what i was looking for when i asked for this theme specifically. this is the vibe i was in at the time, and that i still am to be honest cuz i've been listening to the same emo songs for this long ass time. i'm not like english-stupid so i did understand some of the lyrics whilst listening for the first time and I LOVE the depressive vibes in this such as in doing things "automatically" like when he says where do i go (to the store) like i felt that cuz i've been on autoplay for so long... it's like you don't do it with pleasure anymore cuz u got heartbroken.
2nd listen - ok so i heard for the 2nd time solely cuz i wanted to read the lyrics while listening to the actual song. i think it changes perspective of the body of art and i'm not that fluent to understand everything right away.... not in a 13 min song.
"I am almost completely soulless / I am incapable of being human / I am incapable of being inhuman / I am living uncontrollably" this also kinda crushed me so yea good job. i actually started crying when i read some of the content on the lyrics... but thats a story for another time (pm me if you will and i'll explain)
overall - i dont mind how long this is since everything is really really enjoyable. i love the noisiness, i love the anger, i love the wrath. and i feel sorry for myself for not listening to this before cuz the amount of times i could have jammed to it while crying in the shower... pls im embarassing maself
mathboy9 ─ “Slayyyter - Alone”
not standing by slayyyter is a mistake alone but i guess i can forgive that since her fanbase is very much annoying. i like this song but i would be expecting something darker and a little more ravish. not exactly the vibe i expected when i requested this theme, but i guess i can take the creativity aspect from you. i must say tho it feels like a "revenge joke's on u" kind of song then "im crying and sobbing cuz u left me" kind of song - which is what i usually face heartbreaks
ItsAlexia ─ “Phoebe Ryan - Ring”
again this is a little more pop than i would expect when i requested this theme BUT i see how this fits the theme and i could def cry with this on. i like the song it does sound kinda repetitive from the middle to the end, and her voice is rlly good it reminds me of carly rae. i wish this had a stronger angsty in it. the best part in this song? def the lyrics, love them

i can see how you took a risk with this since u know any other drag music other than pabllo vittar is like, unknown territory for foreigners. I dont EXACTLY see this as funk, its more like hip hop-ish i would say, that's Gloria's forté and her rap is excellent if you actually know what she's saying. i do think she's a top tier brazilian artist and this song was so unexpected of her to release, i love her how she plays with the darkness aspect in her songs a lot
ItsAlexia ─ “Ludmilla - Hoje”
back to this time, i really like ludmilla much more than i liked anitta. oh how the things change... but WELL lets talk abt this song first of all. this was ludmilla's official transition from funk to pop, so this classifies as pop funk and it actually reminds me a lot of 90s brazilian funk, like its a replica of that sound being much more melodical than... trashy. this song is definitely a certified bop but rewatching the video made me cringe a bit
mathboy9 ─ “Karol Conká - Kaça”
i do LOVE this song and if the theme was "brazilian songs" this could easily score #1 place. when this album was released, this was instantly one of my favorite songs of it, before it even came out as a single. i know all the lyrics in this and sang them while listening to it. BUT the thing here is that it's not, by any means, funk. even if the beats on the chorus reminding of it a little, it's definitely brazilian hip hop and rap. i do adore this song though and you have an amazing taste to pick this not knowing exactly the territory you're going in

ok but i adore the 80s synth in this... lyrics be kinda cheesy at points, and some other parts of it, are just stellar. i wish to get to this state of mind someday tbh cuz it's like goals. i dont have many opinions either good or bad. i think its a very good song and it kind of stands one-note-ish
ItsAlexia ─ “Zara Larsson, Sabrina Carpenter - WOW - Remix”
i dont exactly like the original version of this but it has actually grown on me with listening to the entire album over and over, cuz i do think poster girl is a top tier album of 2021 up to today. i adore sabrina's contribution to this, her soft vocals add a lot to zara's strong vocals and makes the song more enjoyable. however i do think it's not a good song for a victory song? it just doesn't stand out for me such as love me land would, per say. perhaps just a matter of personal taste afterall.
mathboy9 ─ “Magdalena Bay - You Lose!”
the explanation to this... everything just feels right abt this submission. i really like the funny takes you had on this competition, it really was never-ending and my first blog said "FAST GAME" i'm in tears...... i actually love this song, a lot more than i remember of the first week's. the 80s vibe i something i'm sucker for, and it's definitely there. it reminds me of true romance of charli's and... that other band called pale waves (both things i'm a sucker for). so yeah, stellar job. very good song.
