Simplify The question:

Reagan runs and bicycles everyday for a total of 60 minutes. Her body uses 9 Calories per minute during running and 7 Calories per minute while bicycling.

State the following:
a. write and simplify an expression for the total Calories Reagan uses running and bicycling each day.
b. How many Calories does she use on a day when she runs for 20 minutes?

let d = 1 day
let x = # of calories burned run/min
let y = # of calories burned biking/min

d = 9x + 7y

she burns 140 calories running 20mins

Yaaaay for maths!

Like Jamie above I came up with the expression D = 9r + 7b
D = a day
r = minute of running (Not the # of calories)
b = minute of bicycling. (Not the # of calories)

20 minutes running x 9 calories/minute = 180 calories

a) n= 9a + 7b
b) 20*9 = 180!

question B) 180 calories when she runs + 280 calories when she bikes = 460 total when she has 20 mins of running and 40 mins of biking
