COUNTDOWN to WAR (Game Idea) Jun 11, 2010
Yesterday while talking to my friend hinata0014, an interesting idea fell into my head.  We were talking about my group game COUNTDOWN to WAR http://www.tengaged.com/group/2250 and he said this.

Hinata: you know this game might get turned into a tengaged like duel
Kahili: really?
Hinata: idk if you get enough members for it
Kahili: yeah

That got me wondering how my game would be if ever became a Tengaged game.  The screenshots are kind of crappy because I did them on Paint but here they go.

COUNTDOWN to WAR is the very first game of its kind: a longterm quickgame.  Eliminations are held at random moments of the day as a group of players compete against each other to try to become the last contestant remaining in the game.  The last contestant to remain in the game is declared the winner.  Approximately thirty-six people have played the game so far.

Ten players enroll in the game and the game begins.

The players are immediately given only ten minutes to vote for who they want to win Immunity.  They cannot vote for themselves.

After the ten minutes are up, the votes cast are tallied and the player with the most votes wins Immunity.  If there is a tie, the algorithm will break it based on the amount of activity from each player in the first ten minutes of the game.  The player that wins Immunity will be safe from elimination but in return for their reward, they will have to nominate two of their fellow players for elimination.

The player with Immunity will have up to twelve hours to select their nominees and will be penalized for how long it takes them to select their nominees.  The faster they lock in their nominations, the better standings they are in when it comes to the algorithm.  If twelve hours pass and the player with Immunity has yet to nominate anyone, they will be nominated for elimination as well as the player having the least activity in the game.

If nominated for elimination, you will see a screen like this stopping you from seeing any of the public and private comments of you and your fellow players.   The screen will inform you that you must complete your Elimination Challenge.

In the Elimination Challenge you face off against the other nominee.  The two nominees are given twelve hours to complete the challenge.  Two things will decide whether they remain in the game or not: their score in the challenge and how soon they complete the challenge.  When twelve hours pass or as soon as both players have completed the challenge, the results are revealed.

Every player eliminated from the game is sent to The Afterlife.

Only one player stays in The Afterlife at a time.  As long as you’re in The Afterlife, you are guaranteed to be one of the Final 3 finalists of the game.  However every time a player is eliminated, they are sent to The Afterlife to compete in a challenge against the player already in The Afterlife.  Just like in the Elimination Challenge, winning the faceoff is based on your score in the challenge and how soon you complete the challenge.  The player that loses the faceoff is eliminated for good.

For the first three eliminations, every time a player is eliminated, they are replaced by a totally new player that has enrolled in the game.  That player is automatically given Immunity and the job of nominating two of their fellow players for elimination.

Only the player to replace the third evicted player does not receive Immunity.  When the third evicted player is replaced, the ten players in the game are split into two teams of five: the RED team and the BLACK team.  Each player must then complete the TEAM IMMUNITY challenge for their teams.  How well they contribute to their team’s chances of winning the challenge depends on the scores they receive in their individual challenges and how soon they complete the challenges.  Twelve hours are given to complete the challenge.   When twelve hours is over, or when all of the players have completed their TEAM IMMUNITY challenge, the winning team is revealed.

All of the members of the losing team are nominated for elimination.  Only the members of the winning team will be able to vote to decide which of them leaves the game.

THE PRECEDING PROCESS WHICH BEGINS WITH A TEAM IMMUNITY CHALLENGE AND ENDS WITH ONE OF THE PLAYERS BEING ELIMINATED AND SENT TO THE AFTERLIFE IS REPEATED UNTIL ONLY FIVE PLAYERS REMAIN.

When only five players remain, they are no longer classified in teams and must complete an INDIVIDUAL IMMUNITY challenge.  The winner of the challenge must vote one of their fellow players out of the game.

THE PRECEDING PROCESS WHICH BEGINS WITH AN INDIVIDUAL IMMUNITY CHALLENGE AND ENDS WITH ONE OF THE PLAYERS BEING ELIMINATED AND SENT TO THE AFTERLIFE IS REPATED UNTIL ONLY TWO PLAYERS REMAIN.

The final player to be eliminated and sent to The Afterlife competes with the eliminated player already in The Afterlife in one final faceoff.  The winner of the challenge is sent back to the game to have the last of the spots for the Final 3 finalists.

The Final 3 finalists must vote amongst themselves to decide which of them should win the game however each player cannot vote for themselves; they must vote for one of their fellow players to win the game.

When twelve hours are up, or when the three players all have voted, the results are revealed and the player with the most votes wins.  If a tie occurs, the algorithm intervenes and decides the winner on activity and challenge scores, speed, and participation.

THE GAME CAN TAKE UP TO NINE DAYS TO COMPLETE HOWEVER WITH PLAYERS RUSHING TO COMPLETE THEIR CHALLENGES AND NOMINATIONS, IT MORE THAN LIKELY WILL END SOONER.

COUNTDOWN TO WAR, much like the group game version, would force its players to adapt at every changing moment to new settings.  They must quickly become accustomed to the fast-paced gameplay and try to stay out of harm’s way.

I don’t know if this game will ever become an actual game on Tengaged.  Hopefully it will.  In the meantime while we wait to see if it does, you can join the group game.  The fifth season is starting soon.  http://www.tengaged.com/group/2250
