The best solution to non-gendered pronouns is to just change the way how we use the word "it."
"They" is a bad solution because it's plural and once we start using a pronoun somewhat loosely, it becomes REALLY loose (see "you" being first person singular, second person singular, third person singular, first person plural, second person plural, and third person plural).
And most of the "new" pronouns look really stupid. I mean, "xyr?" That doesn't even look like English. Plus, there's no consensus of a new one AND most people like/dislike them without much reason. Really... Most like and dislike some without knowing why.
