Survivor worth it for noobs?

Feb 29, 2012 by MisterAwesome
imageI'm interesting in trying survivor out but can someone tell me how games usually go? Is it like duel where the vets gang up on the noobs, or does someone have a chance to make merge if they try hard at challenges and all that jazz?

Please be honest cause there's a lot of other places I could spend the 20 T$ if I'm most likely gonna get voted out the first time my tribe heads to Tribal Council.

Silly picture of James so this blog hopefully gets plussed

It's difficult
If you're going to make it to the merge you have to be good at challenges

I can hold my own at challenges in castings/duel, do the tribes usually vote out whoever does the worst at challenges, or (my fear) the most junior member of the tribe? I don't have many veteran friends so I'll likely be going into Survivor without anyone knowing who I am.

Making merge is obviously the goal, but I'd join a Survivor if I'm judged by my challenge scores and usefulness to the tribe, instead of my lack of designs. Don't have to make merge, but I'll be frustrated if I pay the 20 T$, do okay at the challenge, and then get voted out 1st anyway.

MisterAwesome,

It really depends on your situation, if you start on a new tribe, and you can hold your own at challenges and make the right alliances, you can go far. But if you merge into the minority on a new tribe, don't expect to continue going far unless the new tribe wins a lot of challenges because people will stick with their merged alliance most of the time. However, there are always opportunities to go further if you can get with the right people and make the right moves.

My advice is to either join with people who have an idea who you are, people you have played with before and got along with, and try to take it from there. Survivor is a tough game to be successful at if you don't have ties with several people. If you ever fall into the minority, it becomes a real challenge to come back out on top. Hope this helps! :)

If you're going for the first time, your best shot is to go in with people you know so you can have a solid alliance. It also helps to be good at challenges and do your fair share for the tribe in hunting and gathering water. DEFINITELY DO NOT eat or drink all the food and water. That's a one-way ticket home no matter how good you are. Just lay low, be likable and don't make any enemies, you can't afford them if it's your first time. Good luck!
