Going further into it

I think the main reason some home schooled kids end up kinda strange is because they lack the competitive environment that exists in public school, and then for the rest of your life. If you're growing up with your mother as your only educator, she isn't going to point out your flaws. You aren't going to know when your achievements are simply ordinary. Every minor achievement tends to be celebrated far more than necessary when it's your parents doing the praising. They sometimes end up with a superiority complex because they never had anyone tell them that they weren't the best, because they were in fact the best their home schooled environment. I honestly believe that it's unhealthy for a child to believe that he or she is superior to his or her peers simply because the illusion of such superiority is created because they aren't competing with anyone. Yes, bullying happens at public school, but it also happens in the real world. Yes, it's secular, but so are most things.

It could also be the lack of social networking. Home schooling prevents children from experiencing day-to-day activities that most children get when at school with others. Not getting that could be detrimental and cause "awkwardness"
