Social Experiment

May 12, 2020 by Nikkayy
Anyone that knows me, knows I’m a bit of a social media whore. I literally live on twitter, tiktok and Instagram, and post on Facebook and Snapchat for the clout. But this weekend I decided to do a little experiment and I came off all social media. The purpose of this, was to see who actually cares. Especially in the current climate of stay safe, and everyone checking in on everyone checking that they’re ok.

So the results are in, and only two people noticed. One is my best friend, and the other was a trucker I talk to from tiktok. He messaged to see how I am as he’d noticed I hadn’t uploaded on Snapchat in a few days.

I feel this just goes to show that it’s quality over quantity when it comes to friends. People might be asking how you are in quarantine, but chances are they don’t care it’s just “a thing we’re doing”. Keep the real ones close, as they’re your ride or dies 💕

I completely agree with you about quality over quantity. I avoided social media for years, but created an Instagram profile a couple of weeks ago and everything feels very impersonal. There's a lot of superficiality going on too. I've been interacting with some people on there that I have not met in real life and I realised after 4 or 5 convos that I basically know nothing about them and we've been mindlessly talking about random stuff like plants or holiday destinations. There's nothing wrong with that, and it has value, it just feels a little empty to me sometimes.

I get the sentiment but I’m keeping up with multiple people not based on social media but based on personal interaction thru text or call rn.
