Friday the 13th & Bloody Valentines

Feb 15, 2009 by REChrisRedfield
imageWell, horror-wise, this weekend was awesome! I celebrated Friday the 13th by watching a full-out marathon of Friday the 13th. I was watching from Parts 2-8, then Freddy V.S Jason. (I ended up skipping Part 1, Jason X, and Jason Goes to Hell, because I don't have those. And the latter two, I don't like too much.) All to hype me up for the Friday the 13th remake I would be watching the next day.

So, the next day, was yesterday. Valentine's Day. I was so excited, I ended up watching the first four Friday's just to get myself even more pumped up. (I realized Friday part 1 was on FEARNet, so I was happy.) Then I went, with my friends like a fun horror movie should.

Now, my spoiler-less review for the movie.

As a Friday fan, I loved the movie. It was so refreshing to see Jason on the screen again tearing apart teenagers like ragdolls. This Jason felt so much more realistic than Freddy V.S Jason's, and I would go as far as to say that this was the best Friday since Part 7. Derek Mears played an awesome Jason(though I still helm Kane Hodder as the best Jason.) And the movie was filled with neat nods to the series' previous films and other films like that. Uncle Monty from the TCM remake/prequel and the Hick clerk from The Hitcher's remake had cameos in the film. I got great laughs through-out the movie, which really set a good mood. And once the horror set in, I was on the edge of my seat, worrying for our heroes.

Having said all that, I did have some problems with the movie. The kills were great, but I think they could have been a little more interesting. It wasn't anything new or note-worthy, except a chosen few. There wasn't enough of Jason's iconic sound(the "chi-chi-chi-ah-ah-ah" sound.) I counted only 3 through-out the whole movie, and sadly, I kept waiting for it. However, whenever it did come, I was thrilled in nostalgia. Lastly, my last problem with the film: There wasn't much of a final chase scene or final battle scene that the previous films had. Which is sad, I was really hoping that the ending would've been more. It did have an awesome climax/ending though, I just wanted a little more.

So after my Friday the 13th extravaganza, I returned to my home and spent the rest of my Valentine's Day watching Valentine's themed horror movies. Not counting the remake, I can only count two: My Bloody Valentine and Valentine.

Finally, I'd like to say: If you are a horror fan, go watch Friday the 13th, chances are you'd like it. It was really fun, and I enjoyed every second of it, and if you're anything like me, you'd love it as much as I did.
