Survivor Advice Please?

I'm intending to join my first Survivor soon, I know that health plays a part, however I'm not exactly sure how it works. Do you recommend collecting 100% health before I start?

+8 not really if you don't merge you lose 25 % of it anyway

I had 70% when I joined mine and I've been perfect the whole game. It also helps when you have a good tribe too.
