I think it's cuz he was willing to go so hard that it almost cost him his life. No other contestant has pushed so hard to win a challenge in that heat...so, I think they saw him as a game changer because he was willing to risk his life to help his team

The cast was not built around the theme. They got a cast together and THEN came up with something. Some people are not going to fit.

Candice wasnt really a hero, Danielle wasn't really a villain. Phillip wasn't really a favorite. It happens.
