"I'm just so, so torn right now" - Dolly Neely (Vanuatu)
Dolly's blindside is, to me, an overlooked and underrated vote off in the annals of Survivor history that shows what happens if you don't pick a side.
Vanuatu started off dividing the men and women against each other. The women lost the second immunity challenge on Day 6 and had to vote someone out. By this time, the female tribe had splintered into two alliances - The older women consisting of Scout, Twila, Ami, and Leann, and the younger women consisting of Eliza, Lisa, Mia, and Julie. Both groups vied for Dolly's vote, and she refused to pick a side which frustrated both factions. Eventually Dolly joined the younger women to target Leann for elimination.
Unbeknownst to the younger women however, the shining jewel that is Eliza Orlins decided she couldn't trust Dolly because of her flakiness, spilling the beans to the older women. Eliza then flipped to the older women and sent Dolly home 5-4, taking Dolly from the very top of the totem pole to being out of the game in the span of a single 40-minute episode.
This blindside served as a warning to everyone that trying to be the swing vote doesn't always work out, and milking it for more than it's worth will buy you a one-way ticket to the blindside train. Brilliantly executed and the reactions from Dolly, Mia, and Lisa were perfect. This also set the stage for Twila and Scout's dominance throughout the rest of the game.
