Pet Peeve Central: Session #3 (Friend Lists)

Jan 25, 2014 by Tailslover13
Hello, I'm Tailslover13! I complain about it so you don't have to!

So, you know that little area on your page that lists all of your "friends" on here? Yeah, it's very pretty, isn't it? It's a nice little area that's just for show and nothing more. Why do I say that? Oh, because it's the truth, that's why. Adding people on there means nothing more than having a quick access to their page. That's mostly it. When it comes right down to it, these people are just as much your "friends" as the old hobo living in the cardboard box that you pass everyday on your way to school is.

Isn't it just so fun when people you have as friends betray you, lie to you, or just straight-out ignore you if you end up playing with them? So, it makes one wonder: why did you add them in the first place? What was it about them that made them appeal to you? Clearly they care more about the games on here than actual friendship, after all. No, friendship isn't about talking with someone in a 20-minute game and then declaring yourselves as best friends forever, or a "boo" or whatever else people call one another on here that is utterly ridiculous. Friendship is about getting to know someone on the inside, not the outside, and learning about them over a long period of time to know if you can trust them, like them, and understand them.

What I'm trying to say is to simply watch out what you say and do on here. You don't know the person that you are trying to be "friends" with. Granted, this goes without saying, as I'm sure most of your parents (at least I hope so) told you about the dangers of the internet when you were very young. However, from the many blogs and games I witness (and partake in), it seems more and more people take advantage of others' kindness and good being just for the sake of a game or for the sake of being seen as "badass" or "awesome" or "a great game player". Well, fine. If using people as fake friends means you win games, congrats. I hope you can live with yourself, because you are as low as they come.

I'm not saying real life is any better. For many of us (myself included), real life is dreadful. But, the internet, in many ways, is exactly the same. The same good, and the same evil. It's all out there just waiting to mess with you. Just like how God and the Devil are always trying to sway you to one side or another. But, I don't want to talk religious stuff here, since I'd upset people, so I'll just assume you all get what I mean and leave it at that. I simply do not like to see people get their hearts broken and their feelings hurt. I've seen it more than anyone else in the world, and it sucks. It sucks bad.

Until next time, be 'friendly' everyone. I'm Tailslover13! I complain about it so you don't have to!
