Rachel's Challenge

imageI didn't know much about this until a woman who didn't get the chance to know Rachel before her death in the Columbine High School shooting came to my High School and spoke to us about Rachel and telling us her story as well as Rachel and Rachel's family (whom she has gotten close with) and it was just so inspiring. "People will never know how far a little kindness can go"-Rachel Joy Scott. Rachel was not only kind to people she encountered but she also saved a lot of people. For example, she saved a kid from being bullied by standing up to the bullies, not knowing the kid that was being bullied was planning to kill himself that same day because he was unhappy with life and being picked on because he had special needs and was "different". When Rachel protected him that day and was nice to him, his whole world turned around.

I posted this on Facebook the same day the woman came and I feel like this should be shared. Everyone can see and take the challenge or story a different way but this is how it got me.

Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim in the Columbine High School shooting sparked a major chain reaction. After learning about her during an assembly from someone close to her family, that never got the chance to know her. Rachel's challenge has taught me several things today. Not only is time precious, but relationships should never be taken for granted. Also, a simple act of kindness can be the ultimate highlight for someone, because you can never know what a person is going through in their life. It's amazing how one person can shape a movement, "don't be labeled as average". Finally, remember that "you could start a chain reaction one day".-Rachel Joy Scott
