Julian's Music Taste - Round 3 RESULTS

Nov 3, 2021 by Thnksfrthmmrs
Let's go, girls.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#Weetmaster: Alisan Porter - Blue Bayou
Okay! I did not expect anything from The Voice or any shows like that to pop up here, but this was a nice surprise! The issue with submitting something from one of these shows is going going be how short the performances can be, so she had less time than most others will have to win me over. And, yeah, this won me over pretty fast. Her voice is so powerful, some of the vocal runs she went on were just insane. I don't watch these shows so I asked a friend to give me a bit of context on her season, and upon finding out she won I don't think I could have been less shocked because this girl has some pure, raw talent. This absolutely floored me and I couldn't be happier about that!

#Arris: Maren Morris - The Bones
I've liked this song since the first time I heard it! It's a song I like turning to when I need to cool down a bit, and it reminds me to keep faith that things are gonna turn out alright. It's not a song I'm super passionate about but it also never fails to put a smile on my face!

#Booyahhayoob: Reba McEntire - Fancy
Obviously Reba is gonna be a good pick, who doesn't love her? She's a very talented singer but her voice isn't even the strongest point of this, because in terms of songwriting this has got to be one of her best. She's a marvelous storyteller, the story of Fancy was gripping and I was brought along for the ride with every twist and turn. Overall, a great song by a living legend of the genre!

#Txashaun: Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats
I love Carrie Underwood, she's one of my favorite women in modern country! I've gotta say though, I kinda wish something else was her biggest hit over this one. I wouldn't say this is a bad song by any means but I'd definitely call it a bit overrated. This really isn't the best showcase of her biggest strengths imo. I’ve always felt she's done so much better than this, whether she’s singing about something near and dear to her heart or sharpening the knife and ready to start ramping up the body count.

#Yswimmer96: Elle King & Miranda Lambert - Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)
We all know Miranda Lambert is pretty great, I kinda want to talk more about Elle King though tbh. After seeing her dad on Masked Singer I understand where she gets her talent from! Her pivot from her earlier sludgy pop rock leaning songs to this fun little trashy bar hopping anthem actually makes sense for her. And yes, this is TRASHY but in all the best ways, the kind of song that could get a whole bar drunkenly singing along. There's plenty of drinking songs out there, but the combined talents of these ladies make this one a hell of a good time!

#LaCroix: Shania Twain - That Don't Impress Me Much
Ahh, Shania. I love her so much. I used to kinda clown on this song with my ex wife (adding our own lines to the "ok, so you're a ______?" part) but I've honestly always liked this song. I wouldn't say it's my FAVORITE Shania song but it's up there! Definitely a good time whenever it comes on!

#NewNightmare7: Shania Twain - No One Needs To Know
Ok, more Shania! I don't really know how to feel about this song though. I'm totally into the instrumentals, there's a nice little swing to it that was easy to get into, the upbeat vibe is one I can get behind,, but something about this just didn't click for me. I want to say this is pretty good but not really my favorite Shania song either.

#BigBrotherDonny: Dolly Parton - Jolene
Now see, when I think of LEGENDARY Country songs, Jolene is one of the first that comes to mind. It's such a simple song, but very effective. Dolly sounds like she's seconds from just breaking down during the entire duration of the song, she's a natural at selling the raw emotional weight of the situation! Overall this is a captivating listen, it's on the shorter end but she packs this with so much detail and so much emotive force that you barely even notice. Love the hell out of this song!

#Ilovetosing: Faith Hill - Breathe
This song is very pretty. That said, I've always found Faith Hill's music to be, for lack of a better word, inoffensive. She's kinda safe, almost to the point of being boring. For what it’s worth, this probably IS the best showcase of her talents, I just can’t say that her particular skill set is all that interesting and I definitely don’t think this is for me.

#JayElVeeIsBack - LeAnn Rimes - Can’t Fight The Moonlight
LeAnn Rimes is pretty damn great isn’t she? This song is so much fun. Some of her songs sound more pop leaning than country but there are still plenty of twinges of country to where it doesn’t throw me off and definitely does not discount LeAnn Rimes from this category. This song is a bop, she sounds like she’s having so much fun with this and that helps me get into it a lot easier because when the artist sounds like they’re having fun, you have more fun too. Overall a pretty good, enjoyable song that I can definitely see myself coming back to!

BigBrotherDonny!

THIS is the performance you needed. You were so close to the bottom 2 last round but you've dragged yourself far away from the bottom spot with this!

And who's taking the bottom spot?
