Oscar Noms! Jan 24, 2012
All I have to say is: Get it, Melissa McCarthy.

I am beyond elated about Melissa McCarthy's Best Supporting Actress nomination. In fact, that entire category is full of some fierce ladies.

My only two grievances are Bridesmaids not getting nominated for best picture and Ryan Gosling being shut out completely. Both Drive and The Ides of March were fucking fantastic.

My fave movies of 2011. Dec 29, 2011
In no particular order:

Bridesmaids: This movie was the only movie I went to see in theaters twice this year. Kristen Wiig can do no wrong in my eyes. I look forward to more female driven comedies like this.

The Help: First off, I really love the book. I was super nervous it would not live up to my expectations, but it actually exceeded them. In my opinion, The Help had one of the best ensemble casts of the year. Everyone was at the top of their game. Viola Davis gave me chills in almost every scene. Her and Ocatavia Spencer deserve the Oscar buzz. Also, Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard are going to be around for a long time. Remember their faces, people.

Beginners: This was a beautiful film. Period. Christopher Plummer was absolutely fantastic. If you can, please rent this movie.

Drive: At this point, my infatuation with Ryan Gosling is almost unhealthy. He gave three stellar performances this year, but his work in Drive is probably my favorite. I will admit, I found the violence to be a bit gratuitous at times, but overall, I loved this film. I can't wait to own it.

Crazy Stupid Love: What's not to love about this movie? You have Ryan Gosling shirtless, a gorgeous Emma Stone, and Steve Carell at his best. Crazy Stupid Love was the perfect romatic comedy. It was smart, funny, and heartwarming. It was everything a romatic comedy sould be. Take not whoever is writing the next screenplay for Kathrine Heigl.

50/50: Any movie that tackles difficult topics like cancer and actually makes it funny deserves a lot of praise. 50/50 was the perfect mixture of humour and somberness. I laughed and cried. Joseph Gordon Levitt is a fantastic actor. I loved his scenes with Anna Kendrick. She's adorable.

I wasn't fond of the movie, but I just want to mention how fucking fantastic Leonard DeCaprio and Armie Hammer were in J. Edgar. Top notch acting, for sure.
