Hello tengaged. Today I am here to rant. Not about anything tengaged related, but my work.
For those unaware (almost everyone), I work in fast food. Specifically McDonald’s, or maccas as we call it down in Australia.
I have a personal list of who my top five worst customers are. Why? Idk it’s funny to tell stories. But today the top spot has been stolen! An incredible feat.
It starts simple. A man and his wise come up to the front counter, I take their order as the drive thru (which I’m in charge of in the mornings) is dead. The wife, bless her heart was incredibly nice. It’s the man who makes me question humanities future.
Now, the wife asks for something simple. A bacon and egg muffin meal. The man then asks for A bacon and egg muffin mean, plus a bacon egg. Simple, right? Two meals and an extra muffin.
WRONG.
No, apparently this man just casually says his wife’s order with his. He just wanted the bacon and egg. This misunderstanding alone isn’t too big of a deal, no one’s perfect. But as he “corrected” me, he begins the insults and the usual “Karen” shit.
“How hard can it fucking be?” Sorta stuff. It did not help that he CONTINUED to say the bacon and egg meal plus the extra muffin, not elaborating that he just wants the muffin. Basically, making both our lives that much harder.
Eventually after the insults he finally yells at me “I just want a fucking muffin”. Ah. So he’s just really bad at ordering.
With that done, I move on. They still have the wife’s meal, of course. I ask the simple question. “What drink did you want with the meal?” This was directed at both of them.
This apparently, was the equivalent of cursing this man’s entire bloodline.
He proceeds to scream about all “I’m fucking over this bullshit!”, begin to storm off out of the store! My manager at this point is ready to take over to save me from this hell, but I proceed anyway as he walks back.
He THEN proceeds to yell at me that he didn’t have a meal. I then tell him that the meal on the order (his wife’s meal) needs a drink. He does not understand this. He continues yelling. At this point I’m holding back screaming at him but I stay strong.
Eventually, the wife who I assume was embarrassed to the ninth circle of hell and back, quickly peeps up that she wants a medium cappuccino. Perfect, and done.
She quickly pays, the man continuing to do his thing, complaining and yelling about how I don’t know how to do my job. Eventually he talks to my manager where my manager backs me up, thankfully. As I did literally nothing wrong except incorrectly guess that he didn’t want a meal despite saying he wanted a meal.
Lets just say if I hadn’t gone back to the drive thru to calm down, I would have lost my complete shit. Something I somehow have managed to avoid at the two years I’ve been at maccas.
I know I’m underselling this. But it’s hard to put into words the absolute terrifying levels of audacity this man had. Making a complete scene out of a simple misunderstanding. The wife apologised when the pair had sat down in the lobby to everyone at the front counter, but I didn’t see this as I was still in the drive thru.
Anyway, this job makes me wanna throw my face into the deep fryer. But I stay for my coworkers.

That's fast food in a nutshell; you win some you lose some. I've encountered similar or the whole "i know what i ordered don't read my order back" or "read my order back", like if they order enough items to make a combo, don't tell them it's a combo or they get confused, but if they question the price say "I bundled it so it's cheaper for you - like a combo, don't worry i checked the best combination to enter on the till" and that can go a long way. But like the way this guy was... he basically took youur job on for you reading it back like that and went too far hopefully he understands the big picture that it's about time with his wife and enjoying a meal or something idk. You'll be happier around payday!
