Bullying

May 28, 2014 by ethanrocker1
As you probably all know, bullying is a very serious issue. What begins as small as telling someone you don't like their shoes, can erupt into a terrible trial of torture for the victims. I myself am a very lucky individual who had the great opportunity to grow up somewhere that was very accepting and where people had a general kind way about them. Many people though are not as fortunate as I. Every day millions of children and young adults are harassed, abused, and bullied.

Bullying can come from an impressive amount of sources and how everyone handles the occurrence varies. Some people have the ability to brush it off, but others take everything said and done to them straight to their heart. Bullying can wear a person down to the point of making decisions and acting upon choices that are so devastating and honestly heart breaking.

The phrase sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me is one that is so far-fetched to me ears that it sounds like a line out of a Dr. Seuss book. Statistically speaking, 33% of the world have been victims to cyber-bullying alone. So many people take the outlet of the internet, where everyone is anonymous and there are seemingly no consequences, to use as a tool for extending their reach of harassment and negativity. The sadly recent epidemic that has been popping up quite frequently is that of victims in real life taking their anger and frustration online to hurt others.

Many people that I have encountered on this site and others have been victims of bullying and are flocking to the internet in the hopes of finding people like them who have their experiences and won't treat them the way they are treated outside of the cyber-world. The issue arises when the people who are back-lashing and the people are looking for support mix. You find this odd and sad group of people who collectively support one another while simultaneously helping their own destruction.

I personally have met so many people on this site who are the destructive kind. While I don't know everyone's story and what the truth behind every action is, I do know that masses of people on this site do things to intentionally hurt others, akin to a bully.

All I'm saying is that people should be nicer online, for the sake of everyone. Thank you.
