Jul 16, 2023 by reallyreally
This round I asked you all to submit songs by artists that aren't well-known. After listening through all your choices, I have come to a decision.

Since there are eight of you left in the competition, two of you will have scraped by and managed to be safe this challenge. The two of you submitted songs that weren’t amazing, but weren’t necessarily bad either.

[TOP 3]
My top three for this challenge are: tswiftlover13, mathboy9 and FromAWindow. All three of you submitted memorable songs that I was able to connect with on a personal level. However, there was one song that was able to rise above the rest and that was ‘Lovegod’ which was submitted by FromAWindow. Congratulations, this is your first win for this season of the contest. I’m excited to hear what songs you submit in the future. tswiftlover13, mathboy9 you two are safe and will be moving onto my top 7!

[BOTTOM]
This means my bottom three for this round are: Cullenhi, niceboy_ed and Xyris. Since ‘Dust It Off’ was the song that interested me the most out of this group of three... Xyris you have escaped elimination and will be moving on!

[ELIMINATION]
niceboy_ed, based on your track record this season as well as your performance this round, you have been eliminated from my competition. Meaning Cullenhi, you are safe!
Thank you so much for participating this season, it was a pleasure to have you.

[REVIEWS]
5 Stars
“Lovegod” FromAWindow - This was so beautiful and ethereal, especially when she sang “vision”. It’s about feeling lonely because you don’t have a significant other, which is something most people can relate to at some point of their lives. It reminds me of the song “Mr. Sandman”, but a more modern version.

4.5 Stars
“Hello Hello Hello” tswiftlover13 - This was actually the one song submitted this round that I had heard before. Luckily, I haven’t listened to enough to be sick of it, instead I felt the opposite. I thought this was so much fun between all the production choices and catchy lyrics. This is definitely one of those songs that I could listen to on repeat. [5 Stars]

4 Stars
“Sulky baby” mathboy9 - This is “out there” for sure. I honestly hated this during my first listen since I thought that all the electronic noises were unpleasant to listen to. However, after giving it a couple more listens, I can appreciate the song for how avant-garde it is. I still wouldn’t say I love it, but I was definitely intrigued for the whole time and was able to follow the lyrics. [4 Stars]

3.5 Stars
“Highs & Lows” MisterPotato111 - This song was simplistic but beautiful with a message of being there for your friends when they’re depressed or in a bad mood. It reminds me of that “coffee for your head” song that went viral on TiKTok a few years ago. I could see myself revisiting this if I’m sad or want to chill out. [3.5 Stars]

3 Stars
“Tomorrow tonight” 3pi14159 - This song was fairly middle of the road to me; it had a catchy hook and interesting enough lyrics but it’s the most forgettable out of all the songs I’ve heard so far. I also hate songs that have a beat drop then a few seconds without any lyrics. I’m just waiting the whole time to move on to the next part of the song.

“Dust It Off” Xyris - I’m not exactly sure what to make of this one. I liked the relaxed yet slightly dystopian production, but I had trouble making sense of the lyrics. I wouldn’t go rushing back to listen to this again because I wasn’t able to connect with it fully.

2.5 Stars
“DALE” niceboy_ed - I’ve mentioned how I have a harder time connecting with foreign songs because I’m a sucker for lyrics, unfortunately this was another example of that. It wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t revisit it after the competition.

“Somebody’s Got to” Cullenhi - I was expecting to like this more because it's a country song, but I was underwhelmed. I think it could be good, but I couldn’t get past the bad vocal performance and all the reverb which is a pet peeve of mine in music.
