People have been complaining about the current season and several over seasons of Big Brother. I would like to discuss the Orwellian influences of the show. Please drop a comment below
I think you're all forgetting something - the things that make big brother "bad" and "rigged" are actually crucial to the concept. In terms of loyalty to the theme, these last few "bad" seasons have actually been the best seasons of the show.
The concept of "Big Brother" doesn't just refer to surveillance, it also refers to a multitude of other things.
-Doublethink / blissful ignorance / blind loyalty are all crucial to the concept. So when you're criticizing everybody for not making moves and for sticking with a huge alliance, think about the psychological causes of that, and how to apply that to the real world. People would rather be stupid in the majority than be rational.
-Shitty editing / claiming that shitheads like Frankie were "fan favorites" and cramming them down our throat - classic revisionist history. In 1984, Winston's job in the beginning is to rewrite old newspaper articles so that they follow the agenda of the state. This is continuous throughout. We can see that casual viewers of the show often remain oblivious to the true nature of contestants who make disparaging/racist/sexist remarks. (This is also a form of Memory Hole.)
- manipulating the game for their own agenda - This is the most commonly critiqued characteristic of the game. Grodner rigs the show and they very blatantly slant the competition in favor of some. There is no escaping their will. They have a narrative they will force people into. Sometimes this happens easily, other times they have to get messy and be more blatant with their rigging.
-watching the show is like being in room 101 getting tortured
